Okay I tell you what, I have to think the fact that I am being told that I am "as bad as a militant Muslim" which I would have to take as meaning I treat women bad, believe that evil behavior will be rewarded, accept hurting or even murdering others as God's will, and on and on...

Nice call for someone who has never met me.

I am now done with this conversation as it is just getting stupid an a waste of time.

It is SO hard to talk about what people's beliefs are with anyone, because they just cannot accept others, no matter what their beliefs are.

Hope to see you guys in the other forums (this was originally in psychedelics) where we might be able to talk about what we have in common.

Peace and Blessings to all,

The mean and angry murderous militant Christian :toast:

I surround myself with Christians (not a church) who share similar beliefs and we hold each other accountable for our actions that we may be better people. We have no authority besides God and the bible, and the reason I believe in this is not because I was "told to" but because when I first heard their testimonies and saw their families, I was drawn to it. I was later told that this is the way the bible can be interpreted as far as what the judeo/Christian God would like for his children.

I like the little "nice" comment that you made like a little kid at the end, insulting my beliefs. Show me where I have done that to any of you? If you are a Christian, you KNOW you are wrong to do this. If you're not, it's just petty, and you KNOW it.

I tell you what, go on believing what you want, acting like it is YOU who have it all figured out while pointing the finger at ME.

Of course, why should I expect humility out of anyone these day? It's just another of the "characteristics" that you want to make fun of and laugh at. Please do. Life is short and small for those who laugh at others for no real good reason.

It is SO hard to talk about what people's beliefs are with anyone, because they just cannot accept others, no matter what their beliefs are.

I think what people are not accepting is your claim that your beliefs are any less silly than a Muslim suicide bomber's.

You're absolutely certain that you're doing what God wants.

The Muslim suicide bomber is absolutely certain that he's doing what God wants.

Both of you have have an invisible friend in the sky to back your claim. I don't really see much difference.

Gotta love an internet bully

Bully? Someone questioning your belief in a philosophy forum is a bully? I don't think so.

But if you want people to accept without question any silly idea you come up with, this isn't the forum for you. Check out the mumbo jumbo forum here:

You can post anything you like there and nobody will question it.

I think this is just our perception.
I just seized the similarities between situations where people "just do their jobs" and concluded with nice. It is only up to you if you choose to be offended by it or not.

Please show me where did I say that I got it all figured out?
I don't
But this doesn't mean that I'm unable to see the inconsistencies and logical mistakes that one makes.
If it were so, none of us would be able to make any judgment about anything, because none has it all figured out.
Not even Christians. Go figure...

Can you please show me where in the Bible does it say "Do not do drugs"???

My dad is an Episcopal Minister and I just love reading the Bible. I have actually read it cover to cover twice and there is just too much hocus pocus that the establishment tries to pull out. I also enjoy how many christians claim that the Bible is the exact word of God and when confronted about certain statements made within the book, they'll say that the church has changed with the times. Well, if the Bible is the exact message of God, then why can you pick and choose what one listens to???

And also, for the many hard core "Christians" out there...

Where in the fuck does it state within the Bible that one must attend church EVERY Sunday (what happened to the Sabbath??) in order to be a good little Christian?

I guess spending the second half of childhood growing up literally in the church made me a little cynical of what goes on within the hocus pocus bullshit.

Another thing...

I love people/teams who put out that special thanks to God/Jesus when they win or accomplish something. Yes, because God was sitting up there rooting and helping you out while simultaneously watching the millions of other persons out there.:rofl2:

Re: Faith... In a world that makes no sense... [Re: exagram]
    #7330087 -

The 'soul' or more precisely, its Greek word 'psyche' is not a 'thing' which attaches to a body. The 'soul' includes mind and body - it is a psychosomatic whole. The 'Nous' or 'higher mind' is sometimes referred to in scriptures as spirit (pneuma), but the categorization of these invisible realities have been variously described by numerous writers throughout the history of Christianity. The early Gnostic Christians developed a useful tripartite soul which they said characterizes three main types of people:

Hylics (or Sarkics): materialistic individuals
Psychics: those who are primarily identified with their thoughts and feelings
Pneumatics: those who identify themselves ultimately as pure consciousness

The scholastic debates about the 'size' of the soul, or where it was most present in the body were as absurd as the classic question: "How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?" Early Christianity had various time frames for when a fetus 'received' its 'soul' from God, so abortions were permitted in the fist 30 days for males and first 40 days of pregnancy for girls (how they knew the difference?...) Later, the union of body and soul was reformulated doctrinally to be at the time of conception, which was believed to take place immediately at ejaculation (not 3 days of swimming later).

Christian doctrine is even today based on physical and metaphysical misunderstandings which date back to the middle ages.

Clearly, literal readers - concrete-minded individuals - will insist that the book of Matthew is an actual historical geneology back to the primal (and mythic) parents, Adam and Eve, which is currently 5769 - the purported age of the world. Modern people are as abysmally ignorant of Jewish midrash as they are of mythic time. Ancients were of necessity, pre-scientific thinkers. Quantification was empirically unthought of although numbers, as in gematria (Jewish numerology) were highly symbolic, as they were for Pythagoras and the schools that followed him in the ancient world. Evolution is a modern theory. The ancients, after Plato, saw all that existed as archetypes of the Divine Mind made manifest on Earth - ready-made as it were.

To be honest I'm glad I sound like a Christian

Yup, after a 7 year lay off I'm in my first Shroomery dust up:cool: I just wish it wasn't in here. In a immature way, I threw my blood into the water and then jumped in. That's not to call you guys sharks, just to say that I bit off more than I should be trying to chew.

I try to live by the Spirit that is inside of me. I openly, and happily admit that whatever space, time and reality are, whomever God is or is not, I am not sure. How could I be. For me, the book that I read, tells me that we can't really see what's going on, so I live with that. But as a Christian, hoping for, talking about, or enjoying one bit of another persons pain is against everything that we are supposed to stand for. I don't fight them though, and to be honest I rarely if ever bring up my religious views outside of Christian circles. What's the point?

I try to remember back to when I was four and I hated pain and suffering, woke up every morning with fresh eyes and a skip in my step, and try to live in a loving and giving manner so that I may honor that happy little boy who was soon to be thrown to the dogs.

No amount of talking on my part will convince anyone of my goodness, my Christianity, or my love. Nor should it. I figure the way I live my life will be my story. And if at the end of the day all we are is the most amazing and impossible coincidence ever, I will feel good knowing that I fought and struggled to love as much as I could as I lie on my deathbed.

Motivation and belief systems are a powerful thing. Sometimes not for good. Ironically, the 4 best families I know as far as love and true happiness...

Which it is here I must ask, is it not good for a married man with 4 children to take what he admires about other families who have grown children and apply what he sees working with them?

Anyway, the four best examples I would give anyone if I had to would be a Mormon family, a Jehovah's witness family, a Muslim family, and a Roman Catholic family. Between them, they may agree about nothing. But they sure are dedicated and loving, and that it is among that backdrop that I place my beliefs. There is not ONE answer on this planet for anyone, and the mystery is 99.97% of it, and I find it funny that the .003% that we do know and see through our senses we are willing to argue and kill for.

Seriously I do appreciate all the comments. And don't worry, I grew up with biker gangs and my dad in the pen, it will take a LOT more to offend me than what anyone says about my beliefs, even if in my 6th grade education having (thank whomever you want Ythan, God, whatever for speel check) writings it seems that way. Please excuse my lack of verse.

Finally, please excuse my arguing, it was unbecoming and I will not engage in it again. And I apologize if any insult was given to any of you through my words.

So who likes shrooms?

Peace and blessings to all

Yes sir, I'm "complaining" that people are killers and rapists and hateful in this world. How grand. You criticize religion on one hand for being this evil thing and how the world would be so much better off if there were no such thing, and then mock me with that monkey when I say it HURTS me to live in a world such as this. It is far from complaining. It is YOU who has all the complaints, no ideas other than complete abstinence (which we all know is the basest form of coping) and a rude disposition to match. And yet, as we all know, pointing out faults is easy, but what answers do you provide? Get into the arena of ideas and get out of the arena of mocking others like a 2nd grader. And that is not a disrespectful thing to say. A person should be over that by the time they get all of their adult teeth I would think.
I would suggest that mocking others who have caused you no harm is one step away from throwing rocks at them, and on and on until one becomes the person you claim to be disgusted by.

whattheheck, I've told you this before, but one more time so you understand.

If you don't like your religious ideas being deconstructed, critiqued, and refuted, then don't post them in a Philosophy forum. Post them in MRP where debating ideas is prohibited.

If you want to keep posting here, then accept that everything you post may be critiqued.

If you keep up the personalisms here, you will be banned from this forum.

I guess you must be new here or you don't actually read posts. I have posted a ton of "answers" in this forum. Much more than you have. You have chosen to believe that I am mocking you for feeling hurt when I never had any such intent. I suggest you start providing examples with your posts and we can go over them. I use that monkey to signify our true human nature and I use it all over the place here. You also need to cut the personalisms out of your posts. Calling me rude and a 2nd grader is a subjective value judgment on my person by you. You are free to judge my ideas but in this forum anything else is against the rules. So you who carry the beam in his eye needs to let go of your attachment to pointing out the "perceived"  mote in mine. If you are so fragile that you cannot handle having your ideas challenged and need to feel hurt (by someone without that power) by my criticisms of your ideas then you should find some other forum to play in.

Finally this isn't a hateful world. There are hateful people in it but also much that is good and there are some great folk around if you can draw them into your life. So please you need to get over all this and in the future send your personal grudges in PM where I will be glad to discuss them at length. :monkeydance:

It's okay Diploid, I never meant any disrespect and as I said before this was in the Psychedelics forum and was moved unknown to me at first, and at that point I lost self control and common sense and helped play the major role in this. I have only myself to blame.

I don't enter P&S or OTD for these reasons. I have been coming to the Shroomery since early 2000, and the "debate" that we are all in has been had here, and other places 10 million times. There's little to say or add that could really help us in any manner, either way, and I don't want to argue about non absolutes any more than any of you do. I would much rather talk about the Denver ballot for Medical Marijuana, the Cubs playoff chances, or even Lindsey Lohan :foreheadslap:  than this.

As I have said, I apologize for arguing in the manner that I have which must be outstide forum rules, and will now return to the areas that I can actually be of value to, and not upset my fellow Shroomery brethren.

With respect.

That may be true for you, but not for others. It's this insisting that you know better than others or that your religious ideas are more sound than others' in many of your posts that people here rile against.

You are right!! You must have studied philosophy, and with respect and honesty, I can say that you are MUCH more educated than me, and a lot of what you say goes over my head.

Maybe I am missing the point?:foreheadslap:

All that I ask, is that is I choose to be a Christian, you don't lump me in with killers. I'm not a killer. I grew up with killers, murderers, rapists, drug addicts, drug dealers ect. BLAH BLAH BLAH. And not on TV, but in my house and at my dinner table. And so, yes I must admit that maybe it does hurt.

It's ironic, I was just talking to a young man who I am trying to help get his drivers license and GED, and I told him that he really needed to work on facing his pain and grief from his life. I have been doing this same thing for almost 10 years, and the Shroomery back then, as it is now is helping me to face that childhood pain, and the nightmares that came with it. So thank you in that vein.

I don't have an education, but I do have heart, and I never want to distribute the pain and the hell that those folks were oh so happy to do in front front of me when I was young. Focusing on love is all I have. Sometimes to the point of losing site of the point that arguing is not loving. Old battle habits DO die hard I suppose.

Forgive me for not understanding what your message truly was (and I don't think I will be able to considering your advanced education.

Trying to grow in love,

whattheheck
