Faith... In a world that makes no sense...
    #7320294 -

I am gonna say it LOUD and PROUD... I am a Christian....

However; to define that would be pointless...

I "sin" and I do it everyday. I will sin everyday of my life.

I enjoy drugs and I will do so till the day I die.

I believe in "Christ" and his teachings.

I get very mad when I see, or hear people that "claim the gospel"

and then quote the old testament...

Anything to make a dollar I guess...

What is faith?

Faith is understanding that everyday we all fuck up... and knowing that there is a god that understands that.

Faith is walking all night on the beach... then turning around in the morning and seeing that all your footsteps were erased...

What other religion can claim that?

I too am Christian. I embrace the mystical nuances of my beilef and understand to a great degree that all truths are God's, but they are not all found in Christianity. Christ said that His sheep would hear and know his voice, and His voice is that of Truth. That's all I need to know right now. Why did you post this here and not in P&S??

I see a lot of confusion here about the subject.

incorrect, i am not a christian, but i see nothing wrong with any belief system. it is not the gun that kills, the murderer is the wielder.
christianity 'and its hold of the western world' is not steering the world to destruction, it is the fundamentalists who have no regard for anyone elses opinions, thoughts, lives, wellbeing.

I think you are holding on to an archaic description of something you are just beginning to understand. Look deeply at the reasons you still pursue christianity, yet insist on putting "christ" in quotation marks.

Do you really still believe in christ or do you just want something to be "loud and proud" about?

I just mean, come on. You don't believe christ is the ONLY way to heaven do you?

I believe in the teaching of Jesus Christ...

And of Lao Tzu...

I embrace the teachings of the Buddha....

And of Hinduism....

Of Sikhism....

I embrace all religion...

Every religion is simply a culture interpreting God in their own unique way...not one is less true than another...and all hold parts of the truth...

I find Christians annoying when they believe the bible is the only spiritual book you should read...it's good...but theres plenty more to explore...

Hmm. I guess this probably isn't the best place to ask this, but... eh, why not.

Without the concept of the existence of the soul, there's no point in Christianity. My question is, when does this soul attach itself to a human? Is it at conception, some time during pregnancy, at birth, or what? And why is it at this time?

Also, providing you believe in evolution (I hope you do), at what point along the evolutionary timeline did the first ensouled human occur?

Just thought I'd rock the boat.

I believe the gross misrepresentation of it and other religions, including the worship of money, power, and nasty sex aren't helping the cause either. At the end of the day, it's the wickedness that we are born with, and those who choose to embrace it that is destroying us, not any given "system". The system is just an excuse. Like blaming Jefferson County's school disctrict, or the Colorado legislature for Columbine. Loose analogy, but it does fit I think. The system is the excuse.

So you believe in the teachings, love Christ and yet do things against God. This makes no sense to me.

If I believe in something, I live it, not merely mouth it.

Agreed. And the one thing I wish I could just SCREAM, and I mean flipping SCREAM (because I so much want everyone to hear it for ALL of our good) is that of most if not all of the true spiritual elders in "the way" say the same things for the most part. It's just that we forgive them their sickness because to be an elder, you MUST be beyond judging. I mean it. It's hard. For instance, a man like Ted Haggard, on display in "Jesus Camp" popping off, popping off everywhere about what he likes to pop off about, and all the while carrying on a homosexual affair laced up with some glass, he does not help the cause. Especially when you throw in the fact that we are NOT to be so concerned with what the "world" does so to speak. It doesn't mean that any of y'all who aren't Christians are "below" or "worse" than me or anyone, it's just that I signed up for a team that many that CLAIM to be on, don't seem to be on. Meanwhile, many who don't claim my team, may even say mean things about it, their words and actions indicate that they may be, it can be confusing. But it is by their FRUIT that you will know them. And words or affiliations are NOT two of the nine fruits,

Last word, along the lines of the Chris Rock routine...

Nobody is sickened or saddened more by the misrepresentation of our faith, our Lord, and our way by judgmental, mean, and selfish "Christians" than a Christian. Like CS Lewis said, paraphrasing, "If somebody claims to have come to Christ and you don't see them growing in the fruits of the Spirit, we can all pretty much be sure that their conversion was a hoax or a grand hallucination on the part of all involved". Nuff said...

Exactly, but what get is people like who claim to be transformed but still go to war, cheat on their spouses, lie, boast, steal. The OP is proud to be both sinner and Christian. I just don't ever see any difference before and after except for a loud proclamation.

My extended family is almost all Christian. Almost all have been divorced and have as many foibles as my non-Christian relatives.

Agreed. And the fact that true Christianity is about the LOG or PLANK in your own eye and not so much the speck in your brother's or sister's eye, loving EVERYONE, even, maybe most especially your enemy, giving to the poor, balancing a Spirit that doesn't seem made for this current world with the flesh that LOVES, oh LOVES, (well at least mine does) LOVES this nasty, dirty, and oh so tantalizing place...

Wait what was I saying?

How about another quote from a brilliant elder, Mr.Chesterton

"Christianity would be a marvelous thing if it were ever TRULY tried"

I try. I know I do. How do I know? I know because I really actually love my enemies now. I consider my actions impact on others and do try to make the best calls I can. I HURT when I hurt others, even if they aren't "Christian" or whatever. I want to grow in my Spirit. I need to grow and I pay the cost, as many have. But just like most men who have really been in combat, it isn't ANYTHING to brag about, or to be used for selfish personal gain.

But I know a LOT of people who don't claim Christ who live this path "better" than I. Why? Probably they're just softer hearted people, didn't grow up like I did, and most importantly never embraced evil aggression as a tool for gain. I did and have, and now I'm free from the worst of it. It hurts to be a Christian in these times, but I will never be ashamed of the Father who created me and ALL of his other Children, nor of the Lord that died for me to be free.

Like Lewis said, "There are Buddhist monks who never heard of Y'shua that are more Christian than many Christians. And that is due to the fact that while Christ was and is a man, he is now "the Life". And I KNOW in my heart when I see other parts of "the Life" in others. My dad was in the pen, and MANY of those men, especially the long timers and the dead on the yard guys had the life in them, but they didn't all claim the same "religion". Amazing transformations. Different words. One Life. One Father. One Love.

Sorry to go on and on...

It's my day off and I get to kick it at the Shroomery as long as I want

That is because there is no real difference between the person who believes in Christ, Sex, Money, Power, Buddha, Tao, Mushrooms, Psychology, Toys, Games, Gardens, Fishing. Racquetball, etc. It's just all trips. Everybody's got one and that makes us all the same in my book. We all also have something much more powerful and it's called human nature.:monkeydance:

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”
