Greetings Shroomers, I wanna go to Oregon to visit a friend (and hunt for shrooms). What would be the best time of year for this? Is spring o.k.? How about summer?

Which way will you be traveling? Ashland is in the mountains. I don't know of any late spring species that grow in the mountains. P. subbalteous grow durring that time in the valley. Joshua

we'll be comin' up from the los angeles area. we'll have a car though so we have the opportunity to drive around to find shrooms. since we're all stayin' there for up to a month, we may want to make some trips to any interesting spots nearby. any suggestions?

I haven't hunted subbs yet, maybe I'll know of some locations by the time you get here. Crater Lake is a must! It is a national park. I am not too familiar w/ the southern Oregon sites as I grew up outside of the Ptl area. I remember visiting the Oregon Vortex, I think it is toward the southern half. It was a cool attraction, definatly made an impression on me as a child. You will be pretty far from anything in Ashland, you will have to drive at least a couple of hours to get anywhere worth of interest. You can go to http://www.mapquest.com to get mileage between points. Joshua

heh... i think the town of ashland is worth of interest in itself. it's a cool place, got a shakespearian festival, nice parks and trails. nearby lakes, hiking, and skiing areas. hehe. well i'll drop u a line in a while and see if you have found any cool hunting places.

Of course! I didn't mean to leave out the local environment. I'm not sure when the Shakespear Festival is going on, I am thinking sometime in the fall. Joshua

ashland is a cool town but not the best for mushrooms. it's really hot and dry there in the summer. you might find some Marasmius or Agaricus in watered lawns but that's about it. not to say that magic doesn't grow there but compared to the rest of the state, they are few and far between and generally only pop up when the weather is unusually warm in late fall/early winter. the town is worth checking out though. lots of good people. although i have to say, seems like the highest cop to citizen ratio in the country.

> lots of good people that's how i feel.. i'm living where people don't say hi to you or smile as you walk by. but everytime i go up to ashland to visit, everyone is just so nice, it's a really nice place to be. and as for the cop ratio, i have never encountered any cops (not even for a traffic ticket) up there... i think i got more cops in the college town i'm in right now. this week alone, three people got caught for herbs and one got kicked out of the housing complex i live in.
