Psilocybe cyanescens in Oregon

I was on a walk the other day and found some Psilocybe cyanescens. I wish I had a scale that would weigh in pounds. I think I picked at least 5 lbs worth in a small area that was fruiting. This was one of the largest fruitings of any mushroom I have ever seen. I used to have a little sign in my car that read, "Mushrooms Love Me!!!"...I can not think of anything more perfect to say after they found me...thank you mushrooms!!!

I thought I had found a patch of those, but I was getting no staining from them.
These ones do stain, right? I need to take more hikes!!
They look like they stay fairly small.........hmmmm.

Hi,

This is a photoshop repair of Joshua's last image on page one which came out all black.

I corrcted this photo of the box of shrooms Joshua posted above and like Weiner's post it disappeared with the server change so here it is again.

I am posting the thumbnail but am going to repost it as a regular image because all of you deserve to see the large collection he has in all of its beauty and spleandor.

Joshua, that's more than I typically find in an entire season. I am most impressed.

I gotta ask this. You didn't plant any spores for these? I know you have done outdoor growlogs in the past.

Were these all found naturally, without any help from you?

This is the biggest find I've ever seen from Oregon, and makes most Seattle finds look small, incredible score.

Damn.... that's roughly what I picked all season and you found it in one patch?  Nice work, I bet that was something else to stumble it.  How the heck did you pick all those with a big box right there without getting hassled?  That sure wouldn't fly where I pick.  :grin:

I made a couple of trips to the location with paper bags inside a backpack. The patch was picked at night. Two cops drove by while I was there and I made love with a fine bush to blend in to the darkness.

I consider myself extremely lucky in finding a patch so nice. I may never find a natural  :wink: patch like this one again.

Mj..I know you mean well, however the fixes you post are not even near what I saw with my eyes. I thought you might post one of your fixes after I took the pics, so I compared what I saw with my eyes and the pics I took. They were very close.

The pics were taken in a dark room and the cyans were very wet...and dark caramel in color.

Johusa, your images show up black on my screen, that is why i repaired them. There is no caramel or reddish chestnut color. Only dark and black images.


Here is an example of your post [picture and then my corrected one.

Now you can see the difference.

I suggested this in a post before that got erased in one of the server burps...perhaps your monitor has a problem with some of the color settings. The original pictures are dark due to my lighting, but show dark caramel caps.

Perhaps someone else can describe the color from their monitor.

There is nothing wrong with the images on my monitor Joshua. Everyone elses images show up exellent. Ait during the week. I will be meeting with Dh and he can also see the difference and then tell you.

I think the problem is in your screen. When I see your "corrections" they are always white, snowy, and faded looking. Not just in this post, but in others as well.

I understand that people may be able to discern things better when some quality of an object is changed. But I can attest that the pictures on my computer screen looked just as the specimens did when I looked at them with my own eyes.

Also, much resolution was lost in your enhancement. Some color was gained, but resolution was lost.

Perhaps I wouldn't mind so much if you didn't claim that your altered images where "corrected"...I think I'd prefer "altered". Remember I saw them in person, you did not.

I do prefer how much cleaner my carpet is in your pics though :grin:

I think what MJ tries to do is to show us mushrooms as you would see them in the day light.... that's how they should be seen. Everybody got different kind of lighting conditions at home whitch colors mushrooms (usually the pictures posted here are too dark and too red) and makes identification harder. Unfortunately the picture quality becomes quite bad (grainy) when you change underexposed low resolution digital image to more brighter.

The fact that you call it natural wood debris cannot be what you say. There has to be alder, willow or others in mixed with it.

Alkder is their primary habitat. They feast on it.

mjshroomer. One person once said he found them int heir natural habitat under blackberries. They do not grow naturally in large quantities, only in man-,made environments where they fruit profusely and quite abundantly.

I scoped out this area earlier in the season. The bed was definately mulched with some sort of hardwood.
