Cubensis In Oregon???
    #2229784 - 01/08/04 10:04 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

I have heard from multiple different sources that Cubensis have been found in Oregon. Is there any other reports to support this?

I have personaly seen HUGE cubes said to be picked from a field in the Salem/Albany area.It is said ,by reliable sources, that the farmer feeds spore prints to all new cows and the existing herd, from eating the fruits, are carrying the spores/cultures? in their gut.Cows from this herd often produce fruits for several seasons after moving.A friend picked them for OCF last july from the irrigated dairy farm feilds . I saw several that were 4-5" caps on thick 10-12" stems. Not native but possible with a lil effort

There is no way! Even in the FAQ on mushrooms or whatever that tells you what states mushrooms are in - Cubensis is NOT listed in Oregon

I've heard rumors, but I personally think they are lies. I'll believe it when I see it. Oregon has pretty dry summers where the humidity just wouldn't get where it needs to be to produce cubensis.

Psilocybe cubensis is strictly a subtropical to tropical mushroom, while Oregon is a temerate cliamte. they do not grow in oregon in the wild.

SOme people have claimed that they will grow if fed to cattle in april and May and then fruit with the first fall rains but they never return the following year (That is urban legend).
And then again this is still another rumour.

They are, as noted above, a tropical and subtropical species and do not grow out doors in Oregon anywhere except in closets, Basements or attics, or if the compost they are growing in is placed outdoors like in the pictrue below of these Treasure coast cubes I posted below.

The cakes were put outdoors in the ground and mixed in with horse manure and straw and scattered in a 3-foot rectangular area int he ground and below is the result of that.

They grew this past summer in many parks in my area.

Of course they had some help from me though.

I can not believe that they grow in any wild habitat area. The summer humidity levels are far too low. I had to water my beds frequently to sustain any fruiting at all.

The fields WR says he has heard they come from are irrigated...so I don't suppose it is impossible. But I think we are in the same mind set when I say I'll believe it when I see it.

Hearsay does not carry much credit in my mind.

Cubensis DO grow in Oregon, i know because i live here. The best place is from Salem to Tillamook, they grow year round and get HUGE and scrumptious! They also grow in southern Oregon by Grants Pass and medford all the way south to brookings, and all the way up the coast into Washington. They may have been introduced at one time or another but as far as i know they were here first. Good luck hunting!

I have trouble believing that cubensis are that widespread in Oregon. Year round you say? For sure indoors, but outdoors... There are psilocybes that can be found in most, if not all of these locations, but I don't believe psilocybe cubensis. I would be prone to believe what MJ has to say about the habits of mushrooms.

Don't let this get you down too much, but....you are very misinformed and likely have little idea of what it is you are even talking about.

As a rule cubensis are a subtropical species, i do not disagree with this. i do however disagree that cubensis dont grow in Oregon. I have personally lived in Oregon most of my life. Through out the northwest and southwest coners the conditions are not subtropical, but are pliable enough for them to grow. maybe not year round, but in the summer these regions are humid, hot, and full of dairy farm waste rich soil. Rather you will consider this, i dont not care. The only way for you to truly know is to go hunting, good luck. You are correct about the P. cyanescens, P. baeocystis, and many others which can be found in Oregon as well.

Also, can someone give me some links on how to grow P. baeocystis, i appericiate your info.

That is quite a change from your original post. Do you always change what you say to meet the needs of the people around you?

The growth conditions for "HUGE and scrumptious" cubensis would require optimal growth conditions...not pliable conditions.

It is obvious to any of the knowledgable members on this board that you live in a fabricated reality in this thread. We try to share accurate information on this board.

Please enjoy and learn from the resources available here and try not to dilute the essence of this board with your fantacies.

On the other hand, much new and unheard knowledge (regardless of accuracy) is often seen in the same light as I presented above, as we all hold onto the paradigm that we know. I welcome any new knowledge you have to share, but ask that you be consistant and truthful in what you provide.

If you decide to stick around long enough, I'd love to see evidence of what you describe.

cubensis grow in oregon quite prolificly, i will also inform you that p. cyanescens grow straight outta cow shit, and we also have oregon blues and blue ringers that are actually mini cubensis that grow in shit. all these mushrooms in oregon and youd think scoring a p at a reasonable price wouldnt be a problem, the fact is that everybodys full of more shit than a fucking cow, and that anythings possible...well maybe except the part about cyans.  :syringe:fact is there are alot of dumb ass people from oregon with big mouths and loud ass voices
