From my discussions with Breyten Van der merwe he was fairly confident that toxonmy and testing concluded that cubensis doesn't grow naturally in SA and that all the 'cubes' found in South Africa are all Ochras.

Thank you DERRAYLD. I'm specifically asking about taxonomy and testing rather than idle speculation, because I'm pretty sure people (Alan? Yoshi?) mentioned that sequencing had already happened and they'd made a blog post/podcast about what they'd found, but then the post disappeared.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some of the Transkei genetics going around are cubes just because things got mixed up and misrepresented, but specifically wondering about what has been found in SA.

@pickle_jars, yeah that was what I wondered since stuff gets mislabeld accidently often enough, or even just hot name slapped onto syringes by unscrupulous vendors.

If one of us was to label a spore print as oysters or some other legal variety, how would a customs agent know the difference? Do you really think they would bring a biologist in to compare spores to make an identification?

Breyten is the one that sequenced it through the University of Stellenbosch originally if I'm not mistaken so this isn't idle speculation.

For sure. I meant I was specifically interested in updates from people who had sequenced it -- Breyten absolutely counts as a primary source! Thanks.

"Idle speculation" was referring to the previous "for what i've seen," "IMO lol" comments. I've searched lots and lots of old threads already too, but sequencing is objective. I was wondering if anybody had closed the loop on posts like this -- "Anyone ever sequence this variety?".

This is why I confirmed that Breyten has sequenced most of the locally available 'cubes' and they all appear to be ochra.

Sorry I wasn't clear in that regard.

well, unfortunately, the customs agents are not so dumb, so any biological stuff that is not approved directly by Brazil's sanitary/agricultural authorities cannot be imported without direct certificates from the place I am receiving it from.

even so, it is possible to bypass this. like I said, if it is a standard envelope, like a normal letter, with the spores inside, probably no one will open it, nor will it be detected on an X-ray, so it is probably fine.

but i don't want to test it, and maybe face legal repercussions unless it is the only choice i have.

Legit certain strains I'm pretty sure u could send somewhat safely like ps azurescens. Doubt if customs got it n tryed to cult it to find out it's type they would likely fail lol as long as spores are legal that is

yes, in certain places they do. i just don't have access to these places, as i live in a city. generally on rural areas, with cows, most of the times it has some cubes or psilocybes in general. i've seen that tropical climate is good for some exotics.

even though, the situation is not that bad as i paint. i can buy reliable liquid culture from a fair price. the guy i buy have the african transkei strain, that i think it is ochras, from what is described. i just don't like spending money without knowing why i'm spending money. i already have some 10 LC syringes of an average cube strain, Australian. i cultivated and ingested it this strain, and found a little bit low in potency. but it could be variance in potency between flushes or something. is also not that bad, but it could be better, lol.

12 days since spawning this mini-mono.

They are not overlaying much at all. I did try to select transfers that were not overlaying as much, not sure if this is a direct result or there is something else going on.

Since the overlay is not that bad, just let it ride?

How are they looking for moisture/fresh air?

Im goin to have my first Ochra experience tonight.
What is the conversion factor for Ochra to Cube? How much dry Ochra do I need to eat to have comparable a 5-6g Cube experience?

They can be all over the place, but Iā€™d say mine are usually comparable to PE level potency.
