I meant for malt extract, sorry I should have specified. I doubt it's my agar doing those boogers/sediments. Although....

Another general tip for agar, for anyone. I've seen in some places people can't mail order it. Sometimes a big grocery store will have it in their Asian food aisle.

Sometimes they'll have agar even if you ask a store worker "Where's the agar" and they say "What's agar?"

I use potato flakes for the nutrient in agar instead of malt extract. Most grocery stores have it.

First time with agar and SAB. Used 7 plates total. I have 2 without contamination(pan cyan and ban sa phang kha) and I have one PEU that has one tiny spec of yellow, but the rest of it is good. Then, I have a white rabbit clone that has very strong growth. One has trich and the other one has a thick yellow streak that formed from condensation.

I'll admit that my agar knowledge is lacking though I intend to develop it. Can anything be done to transfer or kill the contams on the plates that have good growth otherwise?

It's mostly bacteria, I think I see the trich but not sure, picture is a bit off. The yellow stuff is bacteria not condensation.

You pick the area with clean myc growth the furthest away from the contamination and you take a small wedge to another plate. If you see green or anything sporulating I'd leave that for last, or actually don't bother at all for now. Maybe post some clearer pics of those just to be sure.

What is the source of these? Prints, syringes?

Do you leave the lids loose and tape with MP for GE or are you just overly cautious? Just curious my man!

Both, they are designed to be left loose for GE so they should be fine without the tape but I'm overly cautious.

I do pressure cook them loose and shut before laying them to cool.

Well my euroman throaway is probably whoring somewhere so I couldn't get an answer on what malt extract he uses so I ordered 1.5kg of Munton's extra light. If I still get boogers I'm sending you an invoice and an emotional damages claim.

Wish pasty plates were easier to photograph haha, how are these T1 gandalfs looking. I used a spore swab and the original swab plates seemed exceptionally clean *_*

I have the same tubes but my prep was much crappier. There's MEA sediment all in the tube, like even on the unslanted side. How did you prepare your slants?

I think I may have strained the agar tbh.

I make it in a pot on the stove, pour it into a bottle then use the bottle to pour into individual tubes. Tubes get stuffed into jars with the lids loose (both tubes and jars), pressure cooked, removed asap. Take the tubes out of jars, shut them, lay them on their side to cool.

Nothing to be envious of just yet, but hopefully I'll have some good growth pics soon on these golden teacher spores.

Many thanks to SmellyHobbit, super kind.

Put my PE6 lc to agar and a BRF jar today. We'll see how it goes. If it's contaminated this time, I'm done with LC and sticking to agar exclusively. Have some HBP, melmak and ghost germ plates starting to show some promising growth. Can't wait to grow these.

Nice collection!  I have the same slime cups and some holy grail cups, about half and half of each. Did you poke a hole in those or are you pouring them?
