Potato Agar Culture Tubes! *NEW*

Well, my friend gave me a 12 pack of "Potato Dextrose Agar Culture tubes"

They look like these



They are filled 1/5 or so with the agar mixture. They are dated from 1993, and some have a cube in them. I was wondering if these are still good to go? How do I inject them with spores, also how much should I put. If not, can I still use the tubes? Much appreciated people.

SLANTS ARE USED MOST OF THE TIME TO STORE CULTURES...IS THEY ANY SIGNS OF MYC

None at all, clear yellow.


EDIT: They were purchased with the agar inside already, ready to inoculate.

it's best to use them for culture storage, once you have a clean viable fruiting
strain grown on agar plates, transfer a small piece of mycelium to the slant
allow it to colonize the surface and then you can top it with distilled water
or mineral oil (both sterilized) and pup it in the deep freeze for long term
storage

I want to grow myc on it with spores, is there ANY way I can do that?

yeah but it's much harder to isolate contminants inside of a tube, there's almost no room to work

Alright, I innoced one of them with 5cc of dark brasil cubie spore syringe. I shook it up and put it in 85F incubator...Hope it goes well.

excessive water, dry spores or an existing piece of mycelium is the best method of innoculating agar

Alright, I took another one and put some Ps. Cyan spores from a sterilized tweezer into one in my glovebox. It has been 3 days, incubating at 84F and no growth has appeared yet. I'll have pics soon. The other overhydrated tube I emptied and will possibly use for LC.
