Yes you can actually fruit mushrooms on agar. Granted they may be unusual in size and shape, they will fruit on agar.My friend had a single small mushroom grow in her agar jar ( she used 1/2 pints with PDA). The strain was Mexi-cub. Not sure if I understood if you ment growing them off of the agar dish or if you ment growing the mycelium on agar then transfering it to substrate jars. Either way the answer is yes:)bluhoney

In a very clean room or glovebox, with a flame sterilized scalpel cut small triangle pieces out of the mycelium covered agar(try to get the pieces with the most ropy structure)(thats a good sign of growing strength)then quickly transfer the piece to a jar with your pressure cooked substrate. Shake and let it colonize. This is an excellent way to do jars. It cuts the time to colonize alot.:)bluhoney

cut a wedge and either put it on another petri to make more. But the real reason is to make sure thier is no contam and this is evident when thier is just mycilium and when thier is a contam you just cut it out. But you cot a few small wedges (this is what I do ) and put them in a grain jar to incubate. the reason I use more than one wedge is thier is more innoculating points. Another great thing and the best I think is you see rizos on the agar and this is the strongest part of the mycilium so that what you want to transfer. You can also clone with agar. Read the facts it will tell you everything you need to know about agar
