I am confused. I've read several threads about PF-Tek and none tells me about polyfill.

You're supposed to cover even the small holes with micropore tape but it's not in the tek for some reason. Gnats can lay eggs in your jar. Do it right.

Sorry, but you absolutely do not have to tape up the hole in your PF jars. At all. I’ve run about 130 jars and never taped a hole. Gnats don’t just spontaneously appear. The entire reason for the dry verm barrier is to protect the cake, and it does it’s job without the need for additional tape.

Good for you.. I lost like 15 jars one time and I only did pf tek 3-4 times. I'm sure most people don't want to let their jars sit around for weeks and then find them infested with larvae. Better to be safe.

That’s what the dry verm layer is for. Safety. And it is perfectly functional. I’m not trying to be rude but that is the entire purpose of the dry verm. You do not need to cover the holes in PF jars with anything.

There’s validity to everyone’s opinions and experience in this thread, but I just want to reiterate to make sure anyone searching comes across this - you do not need to cover the holes in your PF tek jars. It is not necessary.

Oh shit... Should of done some practicing first... Total havoc in the SAB 😅 transfer-pieces wouldnt let go of the scalpel... Ended up scraping three of with the lid... Well, hope that the four that dropped turns out ok.

He said he tried both (tape on and off) and thought he wasn't getting enough gas exchange when he had the micropore tape..It's his first post so he's new.

Even the original pf tek has tape on the lids..I'm done talking about this, do w/e lid tek you want idc. The verm layer is there to protect from mold spores.
