I found the jars of larvae that were sitting in my closet, never saw the gnat.
You said that the verm layer is enough to protect the cake 3 times..

It is enough to protect the cake. Again, if you have larva in your jar, then the problem isn’t solved by MP taping new jars, since your tubs will just be victim at a later date. You aren’t proposing a solution with the tape, you’re delaying your loss.
It’s important to thoroughly read these responses if you want to get heated. I don’t recommend getting heated, it’s not in the spirit of this thread, but if you do, make sure you’re getting heated about the right things, man.
Passion is great, but let’s make sure we’re being good to one another.

Depends on coir brand but around 750g of coir, 2 quarts of verm, 5.5 quarts of water
So just scale that ratio down

Not heated. I just don't understand why you would recommend lid tek that can lead to someones jars getting ruined when it could possibly be avoided. Would also love have you explain how a gnat can get through a piece of tape. lol

Dunno, they hold water differently so it's something you'd have to experiment with.

If you don't want to use verm, 4-4.5x water to coir is a good ratio to start with. I would add 4x the amount and add more until field capacity is reached.

Who is saying gnats can get through tape?
If you’re not frustrated then I suppose you’re just rude, which I also recommend not being.

Looks like some green stuff at the bottom of your jar...or it could be the green in your tablecloth I see through the glass.

If you set it on a black or white surface, is there any weird color to it?

When i first started and was doing pf tek i lived in a town surrounded by grape vineyards fruit flys and gnats were a force of nature lol they never got into my jars through the verm layer or affected my fruiting chambers aside from laying eggs on the wet plastic tub I'd just wipe them away.

Yeah. Go ahead and read my replies again if you want the context. If not, I’m requesting that you actually do end your part of the conversation like you said you would.
This truly is like a Reddit experience, just not in the way you thought lol.

Maybe we should start a "Fungus gnat discussion" thread?

Actually is there one? Because it’s a topic that could use discussion.
