New to the boards, and a quick question to start !

Hey, im new to the boards and just wanted to say Hi Shroomery, ive been around, just reading posts, faq's, the teks and the like. Heres a quick question about rice flour:
1.the tek's say brown rice flour, but i was just wondering if it will work if i was to use plain white rice? And maybe it will help if i was to break it up like brown rice?
2. and also ive heard that Wheat Chex (the cereal) , broken up, with vermiculite, also does good
Any comments on the items at hand? PLEASE help! Thanks in advance for any help that is provided.

well it depends what your growing, but for the most part probably any of those would work. I like using birdseed as my substrate.
here is a link that might be helpful: 9er tek and if you click on 'Prepare substrate' there is some info there.

I would just stick with BRF and not mess around with that other stuff.

Exactly. Follow the teks and directions to a T. That is what i ve learned most here in my short few months on board. Growing fungus seems to be easy but hard at the same time. Everything is done for a direct purpose. I just made me a outdoor bed today and frankly I followed the directions of Anno and Workman to a T. Like anything else it's the little things that seem to count.

Listen to the Gent and follow directions to the T. As first time growers that's what we're doing, and so far successfully. I'm floored by how many newbies talk about casing and other teks without ever producing shrooms. Stick to the basics and learn and move on from there. Why would you want to use Rice Chex? Have you ever read the ingredient panel? shrewman1
