Hi all, this is first transfer of Natalensis on MEA agar. I'm curious about the vertical growth - is it normal or am I growing mold instead of myc ? Sorry, noob here.
TIA

Looks like myc to me!
In my experience, the more nutrition your agar has, the slower it will grow out and the more it will grow vertically. Simply put, when there's little nutrition the myc has to spread out to find more, while with an abundance it'll have time to stay put and grow for a while. This could very well be the reason for your vertical growth.

What variety is that? I thought you put them in a water tub and took them out of the sgfc.

I plan to get close as possible, and only add Verm. if im on the wet side

Coir grams x 4.5 = water in grams
I like x4.7 for my specific coir but 4.5 will get you close

This is MS syringe of treasure coast I , should have went with B+ again rent was due yesterday unbelievably my rent was increased and my car payment! So it kinda threw off my budget . I looked around the house and was only able to find a smaller shoe box type tub. I made a rack and threw 1 cake In there

If the potential yield of a given culture ultimately correlates to quantity of spawn, and many here have cultures that consistently yield 2oz+/qt, Why havenβt I seen a 1lb yield here off a standard brick of coir and 8 QTs of spawn?

That would be a huge tub, ime and from whatIβve seen b/e drops in larger substrates
and best yields are @ high ratios of sub 8 qts @ 1:3 with a too layer is like 30 qts, i rock 40 qt totes lol.
Here.. I think he used like 15 lbs of spawnβ¦

I wished , I actually found out Wednesday on payday how ironic? So my rent got hit with an extra 75$ for water and trash itβs been included with the rent for over a year . With the car the car lot requires a seasonal payment around tax time , last few years they have put it on the back end of my total price of the vehicle and I pay a like 300$ to catch it up to date . This time the corporate lady came in and said weβre raising $10-15 I looked at my paperwork after I left jumped another 50 $ so I pay 180$ a week just on car payments then my job cut out all my overtime itβs just one thing after another sorry to vent I know everyone , is struggling.

Thatβs the one cake Iβm trying in a small ass tote . I noticed the lid didnβt fit to snug mate so , I tapped it up from what I read it needs 48 hours in there before I tilt the lid few centimeters and mist how does it look guys ?

Been waiting for these to start fruiting, but the myc just keeps building on top. Another variety birthed at the same time has already fruited and been harvested. This is a first for me, it's just cubes. What is going on here?

Efficiency aside, 8 quarts is a fat grow and if it gets contaminated or isn't dialed you would be super sad. It's also hard to lug around an enormous tub.
Versus 8 shoeboxes or a couple monos which are less likely to cross contaminate and are already dialed to maximize your spawn. Probably takes the same space.
I wouldn't want to try a massive batch for logistics reasons but I have no idea if the large sub would have an effect on the mycelium. I'm sure someone out there has done a 100qt tub or a truck bed or something. Maybe you'll be the one to write the "pound per tub tek"
Edit: there's the bathtub grow! I was trying to remember which thread made me laugh so hard the other day
Cheers

I use 200g oats per jar, but Iβm about to make some rye jars for the first time. Do I still use 200g? Will that be too much or too little?

Should be fine, but maybe 225 or 250, the hulls on oats make them take up more space..

Does this look bacterial to anyone? There's a few grains that aren't colonized and look wet. I can only assume it's bacteria...

Small grow do do trick.
To clarify, I donβt actually intend to do this, and have no need to. Monotub math/bricks of coir just seem to be a universally understood language in terms of spawn ratios and such.
Used 2oz/qt as itβs widely considered a great yield, 8 QTs for mathβs sake, for exploring why that ratio seems to taper off when scaled up.
Point of my question was that Iβm expanding the first culture iβm really stoked about, and feel like my spawn is (finally) clean/healthy enough to serve as a reasonable basis for comparison when playing with variables, which Iβve wanted to do basically forever.
Edit: This thread in particular interested me, in terms of efficient use of material. Spawning SBβs with a half pintβ¦ Ratios up to 1:12. More or less equivalent to spawning a full size mono with one quart.

They've been like that since they were like 95% colonization a few days ago. Noticed a couple wet looking grains. Actually, I noticed some wet looking grains that weren't colonized even back when it was at 20% but I thought it was just some condensation. I'm guessing that I'm just not getting all the endospores sprouted and killed but idk. I think the blue you're seeing could be staining from my PC if we're looking at the same thing.
