Yes. If you put spores on agar, that's a "germ plate" (germination plate.) That would be T0, but I don't often see it called that. Just "germ plate."

Take a transfer from that, put on new plate, that's T1. Let that grow out take a transfer from T1 to a new plate, that new plate is T2. etc.

Transfers are often used to get clean mycelium to send to grain. Or to clone a good pheno.

F1, F2, etc, doesn't have to involve agar, and is used to stabilize a phenotype. Like if you have one mutant show up and you like it, it's big, or strong, fat, grows fast, looks cool, etc, you take spores from that, (send to agar just to clean up), send T1 or so to grain and grow out to shrooms, then the spores from that shroom grow is F1. Shrooms grown from spores of that are F2, as explained above. There is no F0, that's called “P” for parental generation.

Do that 6 to 8 times and sometimes it will get spores with a lot of that pheno showing up in a stable way. That's part of how new "varieties" (wrongly called "strains") are made. If you did it 6 times that would be called F6.

The agar is good to clean up for stabilizing, but not needed. Correct me if I'm wrong fahtster, but I think fahtster stabilizes new varieties without even using agar.

Though agar is highly recommended for anyone starting out, and is still used constantly by most excellent growers here. Someone starting should be doing transfers, T1, maybe T2.

F1, F2, for noobs, not so much. That's better after you've mastered the basics.

Ive always had amazing luck with chitwans. Literally spore syringe into grain got multiple flushes once spawned to shoeboxes then cloned amazingly. Great strain :awecluster:

Ive always had amazing luck with chitwans. Literally spore syringe into grain got multiple flushes once spawned to shoeboxes then cloned amazingly. Great strain :awecluster:



Well, that's welcome news. 💜 Those are beauties! My tubs are super spore coated and ugly. These things drop spore like I've never seen. 😂
I have some fruiting now, this pin came from a clone of those. I'll be sending lil buddy soon.

If they weren’t good enough to send and I’ve already taken transfers oftentimes I just toss them. You can keep them around to see if they make pins, but if they weren’t clean then I don’t see the point.

Depends on what you want to do and how big you want to go. If ur t2s are clean and ur pulling good myc off them you can just in theory make more t3s and sending to grain. Or take ur t3s and make a bunch of t4s. Its all about how comfortable u are with ur contam levels and what you want to do. If anything fridge them till you decide you want to work with them :shrug:

but if contamed just work past them/trash them. eventually petris pile up if u don't

edit: keeping earlier iterations around can help go back closer to MS if ur genetics eventually don't turn out. Keeping them around if ur not drowning in petris/projects could save u from having to go back to MS if u want to find different genetics

I keep mine until I need to reclaim plates. They can produce pins to play with. After that... I have a hole out back in trying to fill up.

I should have been more clear, I meant this question assuming all plates are clean.

I started with several LC syringes -- I made a streak plate for each and then a drop in the middle of two t0s, so 3 plates total per syringe. Streaks and t0s all came back clean. I initially took 2 t1s per syringe 10 days ago. I then went back and took additional t1s 4 days later after seeing the myc rope up towards the outer edges of the agar

I'm done taking transfers from the plates but am trying to determine if it is worth throwing those plates to grain given that everything has been clean as a whistle and has pieces of nice looking growth on each plate

What are you going to do with a clean plate if you aren't going to use it inoculate grains or LC? Either use it or let the plate dry out and be of no use :shrug:

Bottom of a no pour plate. 1% MEA. T0. Multispore. Inoculated with a tiny piece of PF tek cake. 7 days old. Already taken transfers from 3-4 o'clock. Does it look like satellite mold at 12 o'clock? Guessing that's what's preventing growth in that direction. Otherwise does it appear healthy? Just want confirmation. Will post again when transfers grow out.

Hi everyone,

Any idea what's going on here? What is this myc trying to run from?
I keep thinking the agar surface was too wet and it's trying not to drown.

This t2 plate is 18 days old going nowhere. Seemed it had no contam, but when I opend it up to toss this it smelled a bit cheesy.
