Putting 2 game cams out tonight. The only reserves I have about the shroom meat is that my PE harvests have been such shit that I want em for myself haha. Might be more entertaining if the pack of coyotes got to it honestly😄

i bought parafilm due to slashing my thumb while cutting a cling wrap roll with a scalpel (superficial thankfully). i had minimal first aid stuff at the time so i spent $30 on butterfly closures, micropore tape, and gauze. at least the mircopore tape served a double purpose :shrug:

i also slashed my middle finger while making monotub holes wider. call me edward scissorhands.

my profile picture is the result of a MSS > grain > g2g. that shouldn't happen.

i've broken more than 1 media bottle in the water bath because i had the lid fastened tight & created a vacuum.

i wrap my plates outside the SAB with no gloves because i'm lazy and it's easier.

My first tubs were MSS straight to grain and they were very successful.

I just found a plastic tag in once of my spawn jars aaand im gonna run it.

I boxed up and packed away 600 unused condiment cups because my parents were coming to stay for a couple of month and I had to clear out a room for them. Now 8 month later I can't find the box anymore.

The real confession here is that this s**t is driving me crazy :crazy2::mad2:

Made some supplemented sawdust bottles (going to try king oyster in bottles). Opened the window and turned on the stove vent because the smell of pressure cooked wood gives both me and my wife mild headaches. After venting the PC, I got it up to pressure and turned the heat down to the setting that usually keeps it just at the max without making too much noise. Walked away for an hour.

Came back to check on it, and it was sitting at 10 psi. :facepalm3: Didn't account for the open window causing the PC to lose heat that much faster.

I made a batch of agar with 10gLME, 10g telephone agar and 500ml (not 400) of water.

I ended up with a runny sludge and 20 wasted plates.

i've gone through several layers of depression and this is where a questionable tub ended up after months of neglect

the 'strong' one right next to it keeps pushing out shrooms. gobless nats.

praise be to all of you for the good info to make a wishwashy dumbass able to make spawn so good that it refuses to quit.

I think there’s something wrong if you haven’t blown yourself up at least once and lost some hair in the process, and I come from a fire and rescue background too which should make you feel a little better.

I don’t find this to be a sin.
This is an opportunity to enlighten.
You could’ve been growing any type of mushroom in there. Some delicious edible thing that people have to pay a lot of money for in a grocery store.

You could’ve told them that you know how to grow that yourself. How it’s not that hard if you know how.
You could’ve inspired some future users of this site.

I understand not wanting to worry about kids telling people you grow mushrooms though.

I have a 7 yr old and I can tell you now that it's not always that simple.

It's the exact reason I've stopped growing for a while, unless I can have a dedicated space I choose to not have psychedelics lying around regardless how I would explain it to my son.

Being a responsible adult means you should not leave active substances lying around.

My goal is to show my son how to grow king oysters and a few other edibles but for now I'm okay not growing mushrooms after 20 or so years of growing.

Of course, always be safe. It wasn’t fruiting.
I’m not endorsing leaving drugs out in the open.
But like you said. What an awesome thing to get to share with your kid. To learn to grow something so cool.

I routinely make agar with that ratio (2% agar and 2% malt extract - 8g:8g:400ml). I'm surprised it turned out runny for you.

My step son, who is 9, knows what they are, what they do, and he wants to help me do some of the work. He thinks it’s very interesting. He knows not to talk about it with anyone and so far he hasn’t.

I may have him start some plates from spore and make his own tub.

My son loves helping me harvest! Except he’s 3.5yrs old and has no idea what they are.

I remember being a kid in the 80’s before the D.A.R.E program was in full swing. I had this 5th grade teacher that was always talking about drugs and asking about our parent's. She used to brag about how she got one of her students father’s busted. I never liked her. I just remember sitting there thinking fuck you “I’m not ratting on my dad”!

In my opinion it’s better to be open with the kids than not. I mean they have beer commercials on tv right? Been pumped full of sugar and food dye since they had teeth yet were supposed to lie to them about real life.

I know a few people that do plate work with their kids for learning and funsies.  Just do edibles so they can show off their project if they want to, also a good reason to keep edibles growing as well :thumbup:
