Hi. Please advise me on how not to fuck up shroooms.
    #22090761 -

Hi all,

I know nothing. Only tried mushrooms about 6 times, 2 times beautiful. I wish to take them to better myself, etc.
Terrence Mckenna who read Jung (psychology) at 14 had a bad mushroom trip, and like what I'm trying to say is someone of his intelligence could have a bad trip and never take them again.

So here's the question:
- How can I not have a forever experience that makes me never want to take mushrooms again?.
What is it that can cause a bad trip? taking a high dose for a beginner, etc?

Thanks.

Bad trips happen for a variety of reasons.

But the main reasons are improper set, improper setting, and being unprepared for a high dose experience.

Terrance did ungodly high doses, and was the main reaon i think he had a bad trip to end all trips.

How  much are u planning on taking?

If you start low and very slowly work your way up towards the big doses, you should realize that there really are no bad trips, before you even risk one
I dont think its possible to have a really scarring trip on a low-mid dose
Of course if youre 14yo, it doesnt really matter whether youre smart or not

I've found that bad trips usually happen when someone who isn't in the right mindset takes a high dose. The trip intensifies their worries/problems and makes for a less than enjoyable experience. A lot of ignorant people think a bad mushroom trip is some non sense where your hallucinating scary shit and blah blah blah, but really it's just intense visuals + a shitty feeling = a bad shroom trip. The only real way to stop yourself from having a bad trip is to take control of negative thoughts when they present themselves during the trip. If you dwell on those negative thoughts the whole trip will be a downer. If you think positive and don't trip in a bad setting or mindset you won't have any bad trips (or at least you won't have any bad trips you can't handle). It's really just being able to control your mind better then the average person that makes the difference between a bad trip making you never want to trip again or having the bad trip that will teach you something important about yourself. Every trip good or bad has the potential to teach you something.

Don't base what you do on somebody else's experience, especially some dead person's...

Short answers to the last questions:  You can't.  All kinds of things, but lack of respect seems to top the list.  No.

Nobody who has a bad trip and because of that stops taking them deserved to experience them in the first place.  IME.

But don't base what you do on somebody else's experience.  Find out for yourself.

Improper set, Improper setting, and being unprepared for a high dose experience..............the three main weapons of the Spanish Inquisition! *

QFT....worth repeating.

*Monty Python. (Keep a sense of humour at all times. Finding something to laugh at can turn a trip around).

Don't underestimate the power of shrooms, don't assume that more is always more fun, don't attempt big jumps in dosage from one trip to another - bear in mind that seemingly modest increases in dose can result in a more intense trip than you expect.

It also helps to stop thinking in terms of a "bad trip". You can have a bad experience on shrooms related to events, people, circumstances and call it a "bad trip"..... but that's just life; you can best avoid this kind of thing by choosing your setting (which includes your companions) carefully.

Also I suspect that some people may say they stopped tripping after a couple of experiences due to a "bad trip" when the real issue is that there was some aspect of the experience they just didn't like - such as the feeling of losing control of their mind. There's nothing wrong with this, not everybody enjoys this kind of thing and they are sensible to stop doing it if they don't really want to trip.

The kind of purely psychological panic-fuelled classic "bad trip" that can really put people off tripping boils down to intensity and the way they (over)react to it....when the trip reveals treacherous depths that weren't encountered on previous voyages.

A strong trip can be experienced as a kind of relentless, crushing, punishing intensity that threatens to overwhelm you - some people get frightened by this and avoid tripping again, when in reality it just takes a bit of experience to be able to sink into the trip and enjoy it without freaking out too much. When someone inexperienced says "I want a really strong trip" they don't know what they are getting themselves into.

There's a difference between someone very experienced deciding to stop shrooming, and someone being put off shrooms after a few trips by a bad experience. You can pretty much guarantee that he had plenty of regulation "bad trips" and difficult experiences over the years which didn't cause him to stop tripping at the time.

There's one of his talks (on this video from about 2:30) where he describes the onset of a trip like this:

Quote:
There's about a 25 minute period where your only job is to hang on. It builds - it's like watching an atomic explosion on the other side of 50ft of absolutely clear crystal glass, I mean you can't believe that this is happening "in my mind" - you have the feeling that everybody from Seattle to San Diego is just crawled under their desk as this thing tore past, but it's in your mind...

That's not an exaggeration. For some people that kind of 25 minutes is not something they want to repeat, they resist it intensely (which makes it worse) and they call it a bad trip...

There's also some good advice of his on this video from 5:05, where he tries to explain that worthwhile trips aren't always easy:

If you're genuinely interested in tripping you will find that curiosity outweighs the "never again" feeling of panic and intensity during a difficult experience. Also remember that it's fairly normal (in my experience anyway) for a strong trip to start off as a harsh and uncomfortable experience (a "bad trip") and then gradually ease off into something spectacular, euphoric and amazingly enjoyable. Afterwards the intensity and harshness of the onset is remembered with awe, I feel good for battling through the trip, like I did something to deserve the euphoria of the comedown. Even when a trip is heading somewhere that feels horrible, I take comfort from the knowledge that it will eventually reach somewhere that is worth the journey.

Just be sensible when choosing your dose, your setting.....is the dose appropriate for what you are trying to achieve? The best bet for avoiding a bad experience is to think about this BEFORE you dose....although I do have a sneaky kind of enjoyment of the type of monster trip that starts off with the "Oh shit I took too much" feeling of complete and total doom....so bad it's good

"When it all goes a bit 1408 - how bad trips can be fun". Here are 3 trips that terrified me into a panic attack but were actually kind of fun in retrospect:

A Hallucinogenic Nightmare of Unbelievable Intensity - delusions, mania & pans cyans

Hellbound in room 305 - β€œIf the world is ending, I want to be on the side of the giant lizards”

Let this be the background while you trip.
I smoked DMT while listening to this and things go so fucking weird it was beautiful.
Really though I don't like any input on mushrooms. I can just sit down or pace around for 6+ hours doing nothing but thinking while on shrooms.
LSD on the other hand I like to be doing something or listening to something.

I think the best way to not have a "bad trip" is to accept the good and the bad. Don't trip and expect to run away from the things that haunt you, because eventually they can catch up to you.

IMO, a lot of people trip a few times and stop for that exact reason. They see the problems of their life, the bad things. They blame these feelings on the mushrooms, but in reality it's from them. There are plenty of people who take drugs to run away or forget about problems in their lives. And expect psychedelics to give them the same thing.

But in reality, there will always be a point where you wil be forced to face your problems or your fears.
