Why I don't like flashing images on TV

Ever see a commercial or a TV show where they quickly FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH images on your screen to keep you and your short attention span tuned in, and to make their product seem more exciting? I'm sure you have, if you watch the idiot box at all. I don't like looking at these images. I'll use an analogy to explain why.....

Imagine that your consciousness is an mp3. Each mp3 gets a certain amount of kilobytes per second. The more kilibytes per second, the higher the quality of the mp3.

Now, when you're watching a commercial, they have let's say, 15 seconds to try and influence you to buy their product. When they FLASH images on the screen very very quickly, they can get more out of the 15 seconds. They also get more influence over your consciousness. They're getting more kilobytes per second, and the quality of their advertisement increases. I don't like that.

I turn my head unless I consider the images wholesome or beneficial.

It's also a common hypnotic technique, i.e. flashing quick images
loud sharp sounds etc. Essentially, it confuses your concious mind
and decreases your awareness so that you can be easily influenced.

TV really annoys me. I don't watch it NEARLY as much as I used to.

I dont realy like t.v much some programs are all right but most of it is crap. Also I dont like the way t.v adds are using sub-liminal programming. Remember everything on your screen is not on by co-incedence everything has been planned to show it a certain way.

So an example could be a poster in the backgound of an ad or the reg plates of cars. Even colours and sound hearded or not can cause influnces. So i guess you should watch t.v add carefully I bet you can find all kinds of screwed up things.

have you ever worked on a commercial? I have...and its not as sophisticated as you think. People who work in marketing are generally not uber-intelligent.

I highly suggest watching tv commercials with no sound. When you see the images but hear no sound, almost instantly you realize how the commercial is trying to sucker you into buying stuff. I think the music and sound effects are there to distract your crap-detector while the images are getting stored up in your brain.

yes, commercials are trying to make you buy the product they are advertising....is this surprising?

HEY YOU! BUY THIS STUFF! YEAAH YEAAH YEAAH!!!

is it really that insidious? I dont mind commericals so much, you can just change the channel or do something else. What I hate is billboards and other ads that have crept into the natural world.

However, those are easily dealt with the use of jiffys, paint bombs, and paintball guns.

I disagree, recreating the message turns a negative into a positive. A burnt down billboard isnt going to send a message to many people;

"oh look honeys, some vandals have been burning things again!"

or

"oh look honey, that Starbucks billboard says "tastes like shit" on it..maybe you we should go to an independant cafe' next time"

Well, I guess it comes down to your motivations.. you said you didn't have a problem with advertising, just when it upset the view of the natural world, or something...

Painting over it still leaves the obstruction in full view. :grin:

I generally don't have a problem with advertising... We get a lot of shit free because of advertising, i.e. radio and local televison. Like someone mentioned before, if you don't like to watch commercials then simply turn the channel.

The one thing I despise about commercials is the new media they've discovered to convey their advertisements. Someone was pretty clever when he/she said "Hey, lets throw like 10 commercials in before the comming attractions at the movies! Then the people have to watch our ads... it'll be really big and really loud too!"

Come on now... we already have to pay 10 bucks and a pint of blood to see a movie now-a-days... why the hell do I have to have commercials jamed down my fricked throat as well!?!?

I hate some commercials so much that i have wowed never to buy any products form that company again no matter how many people tell me what an awesome product they have.

One example is the commercial for the GP power-bank which is a battery recharger. Channel five plays that commercial before and after every commercial break in the movies they broadcast. Thing is, the commercial breaks comes without a warning and that particular commercial starts with an extremely loud and irritating electric guitar solo that sounds like something out of a saw mill. I crap my pants every-time i hear that fucking sound since its so god damn loud in my surround system. I swear they up the fucking volume every-time there is a commercial break.

TV SUCKS! They never show any interesting shows unless you have Pay TV (the discovery channel), its full of ADs and mind-numbing "days of lives" shit. It is a brain-washing tool for the government and corporations.

Imagine how smart we would all be if they broadcast the lastest in science and technology and learning shows. And how much longer our attention span would be without those ads every 5 mins.

I refuse to be consuming sheep and watch it!

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.
