On shrooms, "its so beautiful!" revelation or illussion?
    #2180508 - 12/15/03 06:33 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

When I trip, my favorite thing about the experience is that almost everything I lay my eyes upon is stunningly beautiful in its own way. A person's behavoir, a leaf, a sound, a statement, its all miraculous and just so beautiful . From your experiences, would you say that this is an entheogen revealing the inherent beauty in the world, or the product of my brain on drugs, showing me beauty in things that are actually mundane?

I think it's both, really. Think about how much more you apperiate the world when you're happy vs. being sad. A leaf can be an absolutly beautiful thing to a person who sees the patterns in it, and it's shape, but to someone who has to rake them, they're the ugliest thing on the planet.

To me, it's like if I'm able to apperiate life than it isn't an illusion. It's just beauty, pure and simple.

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

good question. Its almost feels like a doubt stemming from incredulation. Thoughts like "wait, have I really been living immersed in this wonderland my whole life? Is it really like this?" There's also the comedown, when I get the obligatory (at least for me) thoughts like "ok, back to the grind" it almost feels like sunday night before work. i guess i'm looking for insignt, maybe validation that the beauty i find everywhere while tripping is real and ellusive rather than an illusion, reassurance that, indeed, I should keep on searching. One piece of evidence that reassures me is that, unlike other parts of reality, the beauty I found in nature hasn't dissolved, I haven't forgotten. Whereas I might look at a person I don't particularly like, and fail to see the beauty in them, although on shrooms I would have understood.

It's an illusion, but it's like fake breasts.
If you can touch them, they're real.
See what I'm saying?

id say its more of a situation where the shrooms let you see how bea utiful it is because your normal mind is too busy to notice it.

i think hungry is right, also isn't beauty however you perceive somthing. So if you happen to percieve everything beautiful, it truly is to you, it doesn't matter if anyone else thinks so.

it's about knowing what you have. that feeling of everything being beautiful. sure it's the drugs, but man the feelings are still there. you slow down a bit to appreciate what is around you is a wonderful thing is it not?

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Indeed it is kaiowas, I have never tripped, but my appreciation for nature and many things has greatly been heightened since I began to realize how beautiful this world actually is. It's a feeling of pure happiness when I see the trees with the spectacular orange and red leaves swaying in the wind.

I'm looking forward to my first trip sometime this month, I figured this is the best time of year while the trees are turning orange, the weather is just right.

Beauty is subjective, it's not something you can measure. Bascially, if you see it as beautiful, that means it's beautiful.

If you see it as mundane, it's mundane.

yeah, so like, you know that bad guy from the Care Bears? Noheart i think. Yeah, he was like "bad is good and good is baaaad" type of thing. So like, you can "appreciate" the beauty, sure, but I think you can also relish in the ugly.

Maybe it's psychotic, but demons must get a kick out of all that they inflict.

So when you are having a bad trip, dig deep, and find that yang that loves the fear.

there was a reason to me that meant that god obviously exists in some kind of way, and i decided i'd strt going to temple again when i live a more ritualistic lifestyle. i forgot the reason, but i still believe in god. although iguess i still really wonder what made god so obvious ot me. i mean like, totally blatantly obvious.

there are things in life that are facts. they are neither good nor bad. your perception of them makes you happy or sad, angry or mellow. shrooms change your perception (usually) from your sober state of conciousness. well, you can't force a change in your conciousness sober, but you can put yourself in situations, and keep yourself out of other ones, and in general give you every oportunity to let your perceptions flow and change more freely.

so i think.

i think for there to be "fake" beauty, beauty must first be an objective thing. i don't buy that. i think that beauty really is only in the eye of the beholder. if the beholder has been eating mushrooms, it really makes no difference. beauty is beauty.

I would consider beauty to be semi-subjective. By that I mean that while different people have different standards of beauty, there are some definite patterns in what people consider beautiful, and therefore a great deal of inter-subjective agreement. In fact, I saw something on the Discovery channel talking about how our perception of beauty is based on pattern recognition. This would explain why things might appear more beautiful on shrooms, since your ability to recognize patterns is enhanced.

IMO I believe shrooms may be a way for God to give us a little taste, a little reminder how incredible this world is to be able to eat a harmless mushroom that grows in the ground and feel the most amazing effects from it.Just really makes me wonder..........

I remember being on shrooms and 'popping wood' over Klingon chicks on Star Trek... beautiful, just fucking beautiful!

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
