condoms are latex (both allergic)
the sponge was discontinued I don't even know what an orthipator is
and that little metal dealy they stuck under your skin didn't last long either..cancer or something... the shot supposedly has major side effects
the pill is the safest alternative for us

I agree that the mood swings and such suck...but a hysterectomy?!?!? I've never heard of such a complication....what happened? Honestly, I don't mind taking the pill at all. Of course, I wish there was a good non-hormonal alternative but there really isn't. Condoms are really great and really important while exploring your sexuality, however, if you get to the point where you are having a monogomous relationship, it becomes a pain. Condoms are uncomfortable, expensive and really cut down on intimacy. Besides condoms the only barrier method out there is diaphragm/cervical cap. Both are very expensive as you have to have them fitted and a pain in the ass. They have to be treated with spermicide and left in at least 2 hours after sex. If you want to have sex again, they must be removed and retreated...to top it all off, they are about 15% less effective than the pill. There are mumerous hormonal methods (depo shot, patch, this new ring thing) but they are all the same hormones as the pill so you get the same side effects. The birth control pill was a HUGE advancement for the women's rights movement and one of the starting points for the second wave of feminism in the 1960s. It was the first time in history that women had a way of controling their bodies and it was a very liberating advancement. I am of course in no way saying people shouldn't use condoms, but I think birth control pills are great.

I'm sorry...what? Where did I say anything about any corporate anything? Just because you disagree doesn't mean you have to attack me. Have some tact please.

Shroomism said: I like birth control pills better than condoms
*warning: feminist rant to follow*
This is SUCH a male thing to say I'm not severely offended or anything, but it's always easier to let the woman deal with migranes, mood swings, and potentially seriously fucked up reproductive system than it is to slip on a thin piece of latex isn't it? The pill fucked me up when I tried it, and it fucks up a lot of women, but we do it because men don't like condoms and no one will market a male birth control pill. I know a woman who had to get a hysterectomy because of the pill. It's bad stuff.
I'm not trying to attack you or anything, its just a point I needed to make. I'm personally as guilty as anyone, I started taking it even though I swore I never would because my boyfriend didn't like condoms the one time he bothered to try them.
Just make up your own mind on what is right for you for christs sake. If you don't want to take it fine. If your guy won't do you with a condom, fine. You can both go jerk off or better yet get with someone who is of the same mid. What is the point of crying foul because of his preferance?

spiffy: okay, lets do away with these petty misgivings, really, you're embarrassing both of us.
what you previously described, within your initial "rant", might has well have been an infomercial. You are promoting a corporate history, or more correctly; a corporate - version - of history.
Thats all I'm saying.

The alternative is to get the guy "fixed".

the Pill, for sure. no-one likes finding the cold condom tossed *near*, but not in the garbage can after that passionate night. and what about when the guy is done, you are both relaxing, out he pulls, and whats this? no condom? oh, its *still inside you* lovely, now loook forward to two nights of vomiting and sleeplessness while the morning after pill does its brutal work.
but that is just my opinion. the certanty is worth the mood swings, but I dont have to deal with myself, i suppose.....

i know several young mothers who were on the pill. the pill can fail. the pill will fail... and you won't know about it 'til it's too late. if you use condoms carefully, they're a hell of alot more effective than the pill. it also doesn't fuck with your girl's body. you know that birth control pills make a woman more likely to get breast cancer (among other things)?
