PF-Birdseed Tek!
    #1365099 - 03/11/03 08:04 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I'm not sure if this has been done before or not.  If so, I appologize for posting this.  Anyway,

There was an experiment conducted on 16 jars.  8 of them using the regular PF tek and 8 of them using the PF-Birdseed Tek.  The ones using the PF-Birdseed tek produced much larger, and more potent mushrooms.  Not to mention, they colonized almost twice as fast as the ones using regular pf tek.  They were all cased with the same substrate (scotts 3 in 1 compost), and grown under the same conditions to make sure the only difference was the birdseed.  Heres how it was done:

Follow the regular PF Tek.  The only difference is one part Penningtons Wild Bird Feed (you can use other bird feeds that contain lots of white millet) was added in the mix.  The bird seed had Bird-Kote on it so it was soaked in warm water for about 10 mins and then rinsed off.  It was then added into the Brown Rice Flour/Vermiculite Mix and the water content was adjusted accordingly.  Once the water content was right (if you take a handful and squeeze it a few drops will fall) it was then placed in jars according to the regular PF tek and topped off with a 1/4" layer of dry vermiculite (to help keep out airborne contams that come through the innoculation points).  The jars were then pressure cooked for 1 hour and then sat in the Pressure cooker overnight to cool.  Once cool, they were innoculated as usual.

Like I said.  The jars that used the PF-Birdseed Tek performed much better, and produced much larger/potent mushrooms than the ones using the regular PF-Tek.
Sorry if this has already been done/posted on here.  I just thought it would be a good way for beginners to experiment with grains without straying away from the PF Tek too much.

Just thought I'd share the results of this experiment with everyone   If you have any questions please let me know.

Why would pf be pissed about an experiment that someone did? Thats rather foolish. Not to mention, The birdseed improves colonization time, yeild, and potency.

The mix was 1 part wild birdseed and two parts of the regular BRF/Verm mix.

They colonized twice as fast as the regular jars.

They were cased using 50/50 scotts 3 in 1 compost/vermiculite. The ones that used the birseed produced larger, more potent mushrooms than the regular method.

First, thanks for posting this thread! I've heard a lot of good things about WBS.

Second, PF probably won't do any time if he has a good lawyer; he didn't break any serious laws. All they are doing is sending a message that, even if you are only bending the law, they plan on making your life a living hell by whatever means neccesary. That includes invading your home/privacy, getting arrested, doing the old bend over and cough routine, having to post bail, having to pay for an attourney, having to go to court over and over again, possible jail time, probation, parole, etc.

Trust me, ANY legal trouble is a serious PAIN IN THE ASS!!! PF made some money doing what he did, but I bet he's thinking twice about it all now.

Still, say a prayer for him

All I can say is that I will never use the regular PF tek Again. This is just as easy but the mushies like it way better than just using BRF.

Heh and i tought i was the only one. I have been using birdseed in my last 6 casings and i i usually get good flushes. I fucked up my last casings when i dropped them on the floor but they are recouping nicely.

Im going to go with horseshit next time to see if its better.

HorseShit and Birseed together are awsome! Use this pf-birdseed tek and then case with poo. You will be amazed with the results.

where does one find scotts 3 in 1 compost? do you just do a 50/50 mix with verm. for the casing? AFOAF wants to case his next crop but is undecided on what to use. I think he is going to use a a basic flat cake tek, by using some type of 50/50 mix and glass cassarole dishes. Can anyone help me out?
