Scotts 3 in 1 can be found and wal-mart, k-mart, lowes, home depot, etc. Mix it 50/50 scotts/verm.
By the way. Glass caserole dishes wont work unless the are solid black glass. You don't want to use a translucent container for casing. Otherwise pins will form on the sides of the casing and cause a bunch of complications.

My friend agrees that WBS is an excellent substrate, but what is the point of diluting it with BRF and verm? Why not use straight birdseed?

The structure. If you have pure birdseed in cake form(that you can?t shake) then it will need longer to colonize than if you add some vermiculite and BRF.

The PF-Birdseed tek is much easier to do than straight birdseed. You are talking about using bulk substrates. I'm trying to keep is simple for newbies to impliment birdseed into their cultivation.

Short of casing (for new cultivators), how well do they hold together as cakes? Have you tried this? IMHO, cakes are easier for first grows (less chance of contamination, etc.). Thank you for posting this . Even if it has been around for a while, I've never seen it.

They actually hold together pretty well as cakes. You can either case or fruit right off the cakes.

Yes he does. A pressure cooker is a must when using birdseed. Though I have heard of people sucessfully boiling it. I think they soak the seed in water overnight to start germination of any bacteria/mold that may be present. Then I'm pretty sure you just boil the birdseed till it swells up. Strain, let cool, then use. I'm not sure how accurate that is but its just to give you an idea.

Thanks for taking the time to post all that, man. It really sucks not having the search feature!
I had heard that before, but my friend is getting to the point where he spends so much time and energy trying to get around not having a $40 PC that its getting plain stupid. I mean, there's nothing left to prove, right? It can be done, just not very well or very fast; my friend is spending hours on what should take less than an hour, time actually worked, to complete, AND his contam rates are higher than average, IMO. Losing a crop is losing your money, even if you grow simply for research or to provide yourself with some traditional, natural education and entertainment. First, there is the cost of all the supplies. Then there is the time you have wasted; time is money, not to be cliche.
Anyone else have a tendency to ramble on when you are high on some legally obtained and smoked, with my medical use permit, medicinal nugs?
