I agree there are a variety of dreams and not all of them are distinct messages from the higher self. Certain dreams definitely feel deeper than others - you can almost sense the formlessness of higher realms. And who knows how varied this spectrum of dreaming is. Perhaps addiction related dreams, if detrimental (which I still would say is up for debate), are on the low end of this spectrum in which the chemical addiction clouds your experience from the higher realms.

I'd argue addiction is going on behind the scenes, in the subconscious, all the time, and experiencing this in dreams is simply seeing what you are experiencing daily. It would be foolish to attribute dreams solely to relapse.

Yep, dreams can certainly be a distorted and murky reflection of your conscious mind.  Anything that you think about habitually or are obsessing over will be likely to show up in your nightly reveries.

I think it could be to. But the information bypasses most of the conscious mind so that it can't interfere in the process and just begins programming at the subconscious levels whether we like it or not.

I think when we engage the conscious mind in decoding the symbols we could discover an extra layer of meaning, separate from its original purpose of purely programing the subconscious mind.

Interesting topic, I do write my dreams down sometimes. Many times I recognize subjects as fears or desires I have.

But the most strange thing is I have a LOT of deja vu's during dreams, only seldom while awake. Also when I wake up in the middle of the night  I get really weird dreams that kind of transcend reality or something. Weird patterns, feelings, semi lucidity and stuff. Id like to know more about that.

I'm sure some are an expression of things that are repressed mentally that, if you examined them, would allow greater insight into your own workings.

However, my main interest with dreams is lucidity; using them for virtual reality, healing/magic, and access to higher planes. Normal dreams are more just a challenge or barrier that I have to cross to allow access to the lucid state.

I lol'd.  Not all dreams mean something. IMO 

Some dreams, I believe, are from God, sent to guide you. 
Some of them are simply your subconscious in overdrive. 
Others are from the darkside meant to scare you or make you nervous/paranoid.  If it's from the light side, i don't think it needs an interpretation.  your gut will tell you what to do.  Listen to your instincts, fellow shermerite! :fairy:

A lot of these theories are just too complicated.  How about your dreams show your true desires?  Happens all the time.  I dreamt of a :woman, lamborghini, achievement, love, material wealth, ANYTHING

I woke up from some crazy ass dream this morning in which I had an epiphany about the composition of stars being proof of a diety :shrug::lol:

2 Seconds later I was like "WTF I was dreaming about?"

IMO your dream would be correct.  The composition of the stars, to me, does prove there is a creator out there. 

I think God wrote his first Bible in the stars.

Lol, I feel ya.
I had a dream last night about my teeth falling out.  They would either slide right up out of my gums or my tongue itself would just push them out of my gums.  It was scary, I could tell I wasn't in any pain, but it was very uncomfortable to feel my teeth sliding out of their place.
