Dreaming

Do you think the dreams you have are a sign of what you should really be doing with your life or do they formulate themselves by chance? I had a dream about a certain something and I'm curious if I should try and pursue what my dreams keep telling me or if I'm just subconsciously obsessing about something for no legitimate reason.

The actual plot and details of dreams, most times, are nothing more than messages from the subconscious mind screaming to be interpreted and employed by the conscious mind. 

The deeper meaning and emotions attached to the dream are what will be relevant in your waking life.

dreams are an integral part of my life, and many others.  I think dreams reflect the subconscious, what it really is that you want or long for.  I also believe in prophetic dreams, or "deja vu."  mmm...dream interpretation-not so much. Not at ALL, really.  Really, its all about what you percieve it to be.  Explore it for yourself.  Every night, you have the right and privelage to live EXACTLY the life you wish to lead.  Dream big.

I had a dream about having a huge computer monitor, two in fact. Made me look at monitors in an online shop for a few minutes, but looks like I've got the best there is atm anyway.

Surely dreams mean something. Man and His Symbols by Carl Jung has a lot to say about dreams, try picking it up.

The Lucid Dream Experience is meant to be experienced, it is so damn otherworldly and beautiful. Someone intended us to have those dreams.

You are the only true interpreter of your dreams...what do they mean to you? How do they make you feel? It's good to keep a dream journal so you can recognize patterns. I'd say every dream has a lesson to be learned :smile:

Thanks for your input. I think I know what they are telling me but it's just not a message I want to hear because it contradicts almost every aspect of my current life.

Dreams are interesting and provide an opportunity to expand your conciousness and awareness, but I wouldn't put TOO much stock in them. When it comes down to it, they're brain vomit.  The Buddhists believed that the purpose of dreams is to demonstrate that, in principle, this world is of our creation and totally malleable and relative.  Beyond that, they believe, dreams are of little importance, and they would recommend awakening before you start dreaming to anybody who is sufficiently advanced on in their spiritual abilities.

Somebody who is better versed in Buddhist thought might like to put that in better terms.

Although I believe divination is very much possible from interpreting dreams, as well as healing (especially in the lucid state), and even encountering extra-dimensional entities, for the most part I believe the dreams we remember are what we need to to see/remember, consciously or not, to alter our actions in waking reality towards a better path. Just a theory of mine.

Although we can certainly use the messages from our dreams to alter our actions in waking reality towards a better path, not all dreams will necessarily influence us for the better.  An ex-addict's constant dreaming about their DOC is more likely to lead him or her to a relapse, for instance.  Sometimes nightmares can also cause stress in waking life which promotes mental unhealth as well.

I think dreams are a symbolic language which is meant for the subconscious mind which works on symbols and can naturally understand the symbolic code. The conscious mind can not naturally understand this code and its not necessary for it to, the messages in the dreams are not meant for us. They are in a different language for a different part of the mind.

But at the same time, if you can learn something beneficial from dreams then good for you.

I think it's information coming from higher planes, which can only be understood by us in this symbolism. All this information needs to be converted, or translated, to the symbolism we experience for our understanding.

I think it's up for debate, and possibly no conclusion can be found from our point of view. Couldn't the addicts dreams be helping him overcome addiction and face addiction issues on a subconscious level?

A major factor in the relapse of addicts is usually the spontaneous reoccurrence of dreaming about getting high, sometimes even months after the addict quit.  Without this there would be no relapse, and it usually makes sober life extremely difficult.

The best explanation for this IMO is that the brain is still addicted at a deep neurochemical level to the drug and the subconscious mind is expressing this via dreams.  If the higher planes really wanted to help the addict then they simply wouldn't make him or her undergo this nightly torture.  :shrug:

I do think that sometimes prophetic or visionary dreams may be a message from our higher self, assuming such a thing really exists.  But it's foolish to say that all dreams are this way.

agreed. within the last few years when i have re-occurring dreams it means that something in my waking life is penetrating my psyche on a deeper level than normal. It makes me take my life into perspective and ultimately find and eliminate the issue.
