My comment wasn't really directed at you, but I'm curious what you define the Christian religion to be.  What doctrines do consider to be central to Christianity?  I would say that Christianity is arguably the most diverse faith in the world, and there are far too many variations and interpretations of it to dismiss it all in one fell swoop.

This is true, my comments are more directed to the baptist-methodologists-presbyterian-southern baptists-extremists branches. At least, the ones I am familiar with.

Mythic imagination is a potent force in human psychology methinks. I agree real Christians are annoying. But so are pushy Atheists. The religious or zealous Christians and Atheists I mean.

I personally find the various mythologies and beliefs rather interesting and sometimes even downright charming rather than silly and retarded.

And of course organized religion is a memeplex, and memes love to replicate. The various distributed identities, ideologies, institutions, etc. do seem to battle it out for control of our minds. LOLz. Very much a form of social control methinks.

That said I consider myself a casual Christian and was raised in a liberal denomination which does accept gays as a matter of fact. I'm certainly not church-going. I do believe in god/creative force. I'm not particularly convinced of any sort of afterlife one way or another. I certainly don't believe in hell. Jesus as my personal savior? I don't really give it much thought.

i don't hate christians, i don't really hate anyone, but i do not like 99% of baptists.  in a town full of baptists (my home town has a baptist church every 3-4 blocks in any direction) there is nothing worse than being starred at, laughed at, pointed out, ridiculed, and harassed by "good decent people", so i learned that probably 80% of christians are not good decent people, they are liars, assholes, hypocrites, thieves, etc etc.  i have several friends that are christians still (as is most of my family) so i can't really bad mouth them, but i also realize there are shit heads in every religion, so what can you do.

personally, i am just a fact over fiction guy.  science makes more sense than 1 man hanging out in the sky watching me do everything all the time.
