The bible was written by man and has been re-written many times.

The bible is just the most common western religious text, fact is almost every culture has its own old religious texts depicting gods / prophets.  Some of these are outrageous and include things such as human sacrifice.

Its seems bizarre to me that people pick the bible, the qua'ran or any other religious text and proclaim it to be ultimate truth when there are hundreds of these texts all written by man.  How do they come to this decision?  In most cases its indoctrinated through family and copied from local society.

When you consider all these independent cultures that have created god(s) and written texts (bibles), we really have to ask why?  IMO its as simple as answering the unanswerable.  The greatest questions we have; how and why are we here?  Part of human nature is that we cannot accept not having an answer.  If we don't have an answer then we make one up and thats the way its always been and still is today.

I agree entirely Ego.  Not only do they pick up one of thousands of texts and beliefs, but then some spend their lives trying to get others to believe in it.  I always like to say, "I just denounce one more god than you do."

Organized Christianity has become more of a business model founded on guilt rather than a spiritual model founded on humanity.  It's monetary influence on government is reason alone to give its followers shit.

If Christians do not:
1. Force feed it to their children.
2. Judge others negatively for not sharing their beliefs.
and
3. Do not interpret the Bible literally.

I have no problem with them.

I don't mind if your christian but i do have something against organized religion trying to tell me i am going to hell when i don't even believe in hell. like i said before what makes your religion right, when there was Hinduism and Buddhism so many years before it...? and with so many parallels between the three religions alone. Also I feel like a lot of Christians do not base their lives on love and compassion for all they are too busy trying to damn every one to hell if some one doesn't  see things the same as they do.

I will quote my self

"I was reading a chapter in this book BIBLE MYTHS AND THEIR PARALLELS AND OTHER RELIGIONS by T W Doane . Chapter XXVIII shows all the parallels between Crishna, Buddah, and Jesus. (#1 being that they were all born from virgins) etc. It is interesting because Buddhism and Hinduism has existed much longer than Christianity.

There is the online book if you want to check it out

Why do so many members judge Christians on here and then speak about being open minded?

Because in some ways christianity teaches people to be close minded. It doesn't teach open mindedness, it teaches people to blindly follow what the church says. They teach to believe what they believe, or your going to burn in hell because god doesnt want you near him if you dont follow what the preacher man says. Chistians have no tolerance for other peoples faith in other religeons in my experience. That is FAR from being a open minded person.

That is MY opinion.

Yeah, basically when someones faith tells me that: "If your not with us, not only are you against us, your going to suffer for it." I tend not to respect their faith, or their ablility to understand anything reguarding being a moral and open minded person. If someone was open minded, i have no clue how they couldn't see the scam.

This thread reminds me of a segment I saw on fox news a while back.  It was a discussion between Bill O'reilly and ann coulter about the fact that Barack Obama was going to include his middle name Hussein in his inauguration.  They were complaining that "all of a sudden its OK to say his middle name".  Even though its always been perfectly ok to say his middle name is Hussein, its just the fact that people like Oreilly and Coulter try to use it to somehow connect him with muslim extremist terrorism.

I'm getting a little off track here but at one point in the segment Coulter said, "since when is it OK to be muslim?".  Because to Ann Coulter, all muslims are extremists and terrorists. She really has no idea that there are millions of rational peaceful muslims all over the world.    This thread just reminds me of the way some people stereotype an entire religion based on the most extreme people who are a part of it, who have the most warped interpretation of that religion.

Christians can lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder, pillage and molest small children. They are forgiven by the supposed crucifixion of their savior.
I see a problem with that.

1) Cars can hurt you.
2) You cannot fly.
3) It's never a good time to die.
4) Taking your clothes off will draw attention.
5) Keep your mouth shut at all times while in public.
6) Although you may see things that are not there, you won't NOT see things that are there.
7) Don't forget how to breathe.
8) Only carry: a house-key, some loose change, and your address in your shoe.
9) Nobody can tell that you are tripping until you tell them "I'm tripping".
10) No matter how fucked-up you think you are, you'll eventually come down.

christianity is a disease, not much more to it. you can spin it any way you want, it won't do nothing except clearing your conscience for a while. justifying the degradation of man is now way to live.

Nothing wrong with some Christians per se.. I try to judge people on an individual basis.

But when it comes to Christianity, well.. that is somewhat different.
I was indoctrinated into it as a young child, I had no choice in the matter - it was forced on me.
When I reached the age of reason I did not like the things they were shoving down my throat and I went against it.
For all the open-mindedness they preach about,
they sure do TEACH THROUGH EXAMPLE a lot of intolerance, ignorance, and closed-mindedness, especially in regards to other religions.

Now this is not true for all christians, there are some very moderate, very reasonable and open-minded christians.
But for the most part, the whole religion is a farce (the teachings of Jesus did not say, form a church around my teaching, distort them, worship me, and tell people all fags go to hell)
Jesus' message was a simple one of peace and love thy neighbor.
A lot of christians love other christians and look down upon their neighbors. And are extremely intolerant.
This is a direct result of the christian church.
The extremists ruin it.

I think for the most part, all organized religions are retarded.
One does not need to build a synagogue and build a structure of dogma in order to claim a faith.
And the fact that they don't pay taxes....
And they tell people if you don't believe what we believe, your soul burns in hell for eternity.
Something is seriously wrong with that.

In short, some christians are ok in my book. But Christianity, the religion.. sucks.
