Great hippie pic gold!

I am looking for an enlightened man. Someone who lives the dream. Heaven on Earth... yin and yang... and all that.

We have no clue as to what enlightenment was originally intended to mean.  To say the least it was an expression of an experience, an experience that we may or may not have access to.  And if someone were to access this state, there would be no way we could measure their subjective experience through objective means.  So it's quite obvious nobody is going to show you an enlightened man

This guy seems to be living the dream, he talks about it near the end of this page -

http://www.greatwesternvehicle.org/personalexperience.htm

He probably doesn't consider himself enlightened, nor would I, but he probably experiences far more enlightening states than most people.

The way he describes his experience makes it sound like heaven, and definitely something worth working towards.  Kinda off topic, but interesting nontheless.

The only difference between an enlightened person and an unenlightened person is a gap on a spectrum going from "ASSHOLE" to "INTENDED"

--------------------

Wherever the hero may wander, whatever he may do, he is ever in the presence of his own essence — for he has the perfected eye to see. There is no separateness. Thus, just as the way of social participation may lead in the end to a realization of the All in the individual, so that of exile brings the hero to the Self in all.

why there is reality and patterned, law-like consistency at all, rather than noise or non-reality is not a question physics answers. It's a question physics presupposes an answer to in order to provide other answers.

Welcome evermore to gods and men is the self-helping man.  For him all doors are flung wide: him all tongues greet, all honors crown, all eyes follow with desire.  Our love goes out to him and embraces him, because he did not need it.

Not even close IMO. Did great stuff for sure. Also had great flaws from what I've heard.

Dood. It's impossible to determine the enlightenment of another person, especially if you've never met them.

What is enlightenment? When I read about nature and the universe I feel that I've become enlightened. Is it about the arrival to a destination or the journey?

"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here." - Richard Dawkins

People around here talk about enlightenment like it is a goal they will someday reach (or have already reached). Like a switch is turned on... and poof! They're enlightened.

Yesterday, in another thread I mentioned how enlightened people are a myth... and somebody took exception to my statement.

If enlightenment is as attainable as people around here like to believe... it should not be hard to show me an enlightened man.

How would you define enlightenment?  To provide an example, we would need to know what it means to you.
