lol castaneda! i was completely anti-drug until i read some his books. i started with tales of power and its still my favorite.
honestly i had never heard of the idea that you could take plants and get magic powers, i had no idea what the fuck he was talking about, so i prepared for about 6 months and decided to do it myself when i was 18. I used datura for the next 6 months but i sure didn't get magic powers...

then i discovered that people said DXM would let me talk to aliens, again i was like "what the fuck are they talking about, is that true?"

so yeah castenda was my starting point.

john lilly had the largest effect on me though, although i read all the classics i never really felt much affinity to anything but lilly.
particularly the idea that i should explore the interaction between my senses and my mind, and try and find out what was going on in my head when i took myself out of my senses.

most of my trips for the first year or two seemed meta-programming in the human biocomputer related.
