I'm a fat bastard!
    #6501389 -

I really need to lose weight.

I'm about 5,9 - 5,10 ft tall
but weight about 247 pounds!!!

I've never been this fat before, i even have alot of red/purple stretch marks all over me.

I really hate exercise though, so I might just go on a strict diet.

Anyone else here a porker?
If so how much do you weight?

be careful of the mercury content of tuna. i eat tons of it, too. one can = 30g protein. holy shite.

to threadstarter: you need to do aerobic activity. But because of your weight, running would probably hurt more than help. I recommend cycling. Seriously. Nothing has ever lowered my body fat like when i commuted to work on my bike. And i used to be on the track/xc team as a distance runner. Cycling takes teh cake because in running, i often reached the lactic-acid range of heartrate, which is actually not condusive to burning fat. To burn the most fat, you must stay in the aerobic range of around 100-130bpm for as long as you can.

the best thing about cycling is that you can go so long.

you must be consistent. It isnt a workout plan, it's a permanent life-style change.

The immediate results of losing weight and getting thinner is the fat-cells shrinking, but not going away. It takes a very long time to actually lose fat cells. This is why so many people bounce back so easily. Fat cells are like mini balloons, you can decrease their air, but theyre still there ready to be filled again.

Very well spoken!!!

I need to get my overweight ass back on my Cannondale and huff it to work more often! I know it would make me start to feel better. I've done it quite a few times, now. I'll get lazy for awhile, then I'll get bored and sick of myself and it would make me run, lift weights, and do calisthenic burnouts. I am nearing in on another work out frenzy stage, I believe.

Personally I wouldn't go 'balls deep' into a health regiment. People who never really ate well or exercise regularly seldom succeed when they try to change their life all at once. I would suggest starting off slow and getting into the habit of small changes then adding more good habits as you get used to what you are doing.

Small things like if your commute to work is 4 miles or so ride a bike there. Also if you drink alot of soda (or any really), switch to diet the amount of sugar that is in a can of soda is outrageous diet doesn't taste as good but after about 12 cans you get hooked and regular soda doesn't taste as good. Start cooking for yourself rather then eating fast food, even if you cook something that's not all that healthy almost always it beats out fast food.

Or if you have the extra time you can get a job at UPS I keep finding out people that start working for them lose a fuck load of weight their first few months, and shit you get paid for it.

ok for one, i dont see how its that hard to stop over eating. 5'9@250lbs!? obviously you eat to damnmuch man, your stuffing yourself with food and that is not healthy at all.

stop eating so much. if i were you next time you eat, drink a huge glass of water befor you eat, and EAT SLOWLYYYY, chew your food thouroughly befor you swallo. the thing is people eat to much because they cant feel when they are feel, well it takes the body 15-20 mins to realize that its full.

also you gotta exercise man. you cannot lose a significant amount of weight with out truly exercising. i dont care how you do it, but you HAVE TO BREAK A SWEAT. if you dont your just cutting yourself short.

As an added side, be mindful of your alcohol consumption...especially beer :frown:. The more I drink the faster I put on pounds, and I've seen such to be the case with friends as well.

easiest way to lose weight: cut out soda/drinks with lots of sugars/lots of calories/carbs etc. you'll put off maybe 20 pounds by that alone.

There are hundreds of people if not thousands in the same boat as you who are also asking and getting help on loosing/gaining/maintaining their weight.

To burn the most fat, you must stay in the aerobic range of around 100-130bpm for as long as you can.
----------------

What happens if you go over the 130 range?? I've often wondered that. I typically keep my heart range in the 140-160ish when doing cardio.

That being said, 5ft10 and 247 is quite big, at my heaviest I was around 240, and I'm 6ft4. But really, the only way to really shed the pounds will be to hit up cardio about 3x a week for ~30 mins at a time. Going on a 'strict diet' may cause you to lose weight for awhile, but the moment you go back to your normal eating habbits, it will all just bounce back and then some.

What I've had success in doing for losing weight (lost around 40 pounds in 5 months).

- Start slow with just cardio 3x a week. For the first while, you may only be able to do like, 10-20 mins at a time, just keep at it.
- Once you start being able to do 30 mins at a time, start adding weights once you reach the end of the 30 mins

- Start working on weights, pick 3 or 4 different machines for each day, and do 3 sets of 15 at a weight heavy enough that by time your on rep 12 or so of the 3rd set, you almost cant finish. As that starts to get easier (ie: you can do a full 3x15 easily), increase the weight.

- Replace pop with diet pop, and sugary juices with crystal light or plain old water

- DO NOT use the logic, "Oh, I got a diet pop, therefore I can biggy size my frenchfries", as well - the calories you gain by doing that is greater than what you lose from getting the diet pop. and dont use the logic of "oh, I worked out today, so I can grab that double big mac on my way home"

- Start walking more, walking for 30-40 mins a day may not do much at the time, but add it up over the course of a few months, and it does a world of good.

- Change from white bread to whole-grain. Same goes for pasta and rice, go for natural/long grain and not the instant rice

- Eat more salads - but, WATCH THE DRESSING. Having a salad on the side is healthier, until you put on 10tbsp of dressing, cut up cheese, toss in 2 cups worth of croƻtons and bacon, etc...then its not so healthy. Look for vinaigrette dressings instead of cream ones

- Get more fiber into your diet. Start your day with a bowl of bran cereal with fresh fruit ontop and drink lots of water, this will keep you full for a longer period of time.

- Snack on fruits instead of candy, fruit can give you a natural sugar fix in a healthier way then going for candy.

Introduce changes slowly -- little bit at a time. Doing a drastic 'I'm going to go on a diet and workout 7x a week and cut out carbs and fat' plans are destined to fail. Going on crash diets will fail - the only real way to lose and keep weight off is to make a lifestyle change of "Be more active, eat healthier"

I've managed to drop nearly 40 pounds - and it hasnt felt like 'work' at all. I actually enjoy going to the gym now, and if anything - I am eating more than I used to, I am just eating healthier and enjoying it more. Make the changes slowly and as you can adapt them into your lifestyle, trying to do a drastic change will just lead to failure IMO.
