Re: fat tax [Re: snoot]

I disagree with taxing unhealthy food, but I believe people should have to pay for their own health problems that may arise from obesity. It's not the government's job to tax this stuff or pay for the health problems it produces.

Also, about the lack of respect someone mentioned back earlier in this thread. No one deserves respect unless they earn it. Until I feel like someone has done something to earn my respect, they get an emotion somewhere on the scale between ambivalence and contempt.

all those gyms like 24 hour fitness and such shouldn't charge so much for a

membership instead they should pay people to go work out. that would be a

much better incintive for people to exercise. or offer some sort of ridiculous

prize for losing 50 pounds. like an all expense paid trip to tahiti or something

cool.

I consider looking good and feeling healthy to be reward enough by itself, but I guess many Americans will never know either feeling.

Oh, and I support this:

How about if we tax unhealthy food and subsidize healthy food with the money.

I understand why many people say that others should pay for their own health problems, but I think that public health care is enough of a public good that the cost to taxpayers, particularly if those taxpayers are buying those harmful goods, is well worth it.

Some day someone will invent a drug that makes exercise feel good, and then Americans will all be superfit.

Since I aquired this mindset I feel 100% better. I am half as tired as I used to be. I eat unprocessed foods and starting cooking more. Once I got use to the lifestyle, key word, change, I would never go back.

I prefer to eat healthy rather than junk. I consider myself used to be addicted to fast food/junk food. I never eat fast food.

Plus the more fat people we have the more foreigners will make fun of us...  It reinforces the stereotype that we are lazy and over-consume.

Many Americans(and Canadians  ) ARE consuming far too much food, and other resources. Hell the whole world will soon be at a point where we are all consuming far to many resources.

By 2050 The world will need a whole planet worth of resources just to get by, right now if everyone wanted to live like the average American we would need 4 planets.

That being said, what do you guys think is going to happen as 2050 approaches??
I see two major possible outcomes among many. World wide economic collapse. Or massive wars over whats left.
I wonder if a fax tax will be our concern then, I doubt it.

True, but you neglect to mention how much would be available if every person produced as much as the average american.
