So say I finish college next year and get my degree, is it held to a higher/lower regard in Canada, or will I be stuck getting some other type of schooling to get a decent paying job?

usually degrees are still worth something from country to coutry. The exception is if you are in a really really shitty country like say, some place in africa, then come to a high tech place like the US or europe.
a US degree will be worth money most anywhere.

You should be fine.
Lots of American schools have better reputations that Canadian one's and people will recognize that of course.
We're not some totally strange place up here...

But you guys can pack away the beer eh?
Every person who lives in Canada that I have met has been irregularly cool and fun to be around... wish I could say the same for the assholes who live in the US with me. (No offense Shroomerites who live in the US, we're all in a small minority of non-assholish Americans)

i dunno, i think a degree in Hockey Studies from an american institution wouldnt mean much to the major Hockey firms hiring in Ontario, you'd prolly have to have a PhD to get anyone's respect up there.

what about the other way around? are degrees from canada worth a damn here? Oh, and corn king, that is the greatest picture of george dubya that I have ever seen. by any chance do you know why he was holding the corn, cause I'd love to hear the bushism that went along with that pic.

I'm pretty sure degrees from both countries are accepted by both countries. We lose a lot of doctors, fresh out of med school, to you guys and I'm assuming they just take their degree with them. I've known a few people who have found jobs in the US right out of university, so I think there isn't much difference between a Canadian and a US degree.

A degree in something would probably help with immigration, I think. You need to have a job offer before you can move here, I think.

good point.
I'm sure the canadian med students have to take a couple pre-reqs before we let them start cutting yanks willy nilly.

it would depend on the school and what you have degrees in. most places will hire you if they are aware of that university/college. if it is some piss ant college in boondocks alabama...maybe not. if it is a serious higher end job they will look into either way. if its just some manager type postion at some buisness, they may be more willing to hire the canadians from the university next town over. just be sure to let them know about the school and what exactly it is all aboot and such. i think you will enjoy the casualness, weed, alcoholism and our great scenery! and the snow is THAT bad in most places, we just whine lots, and yanks exagorate lots where abouts ya moving to? in my opinion stay out of the cities, many are quite expesive. i dont like toronto and surounding area for that reason, same with vancouver. very $$$ in my eyes.

I'm not sure..
For me I had a BioChem degree from the states, and I went to UBC in Vancouver and got a Comp. Sci. Degree. I applied to mostly BioTech jobs but didn't get much there, maybe it is me?
I know that if you are not from Canada, and you graduate from a Canadian University you have like 3months (or 1 year, i think they changed it) to find a job within that field if you want a work permit.
Competition is tough there for jobs, not many jobs, lots of qualified people..

Fields that are in demand (medicine, nursing, engineering--esp chemical) get "scouted" by companies from the US. They sign a paper and the company makes sure you get into the US. This is called the "brain drain", it's a pretty hot topic here in Canada.
Of course if you're an anthropology major or something similar they won't touch you with a stick.
