Seriously, though, I think if you were to the extent that you were "severely retarded", you would not be capable of much functioning at all. Most human beings function "normally" and are still so clouded with mental obstructions that their direct perception and experience of reality is virtually nil. Being severely retarded isn't going to make it any easier.

It is interesting to contemplate what the experience of someone who is severely retarded would be. I think it would have to be along the lines of an aware fish (a more intelligent fish, like an oscar), albeit one that's natural sense of surroundings and environment is skewed. To be perfectly honest, I do not understand why parents allow severely retarded people to continue living. I would hate to seem cruel, but I simply ask why?

Perhaps the parents are so attached to their concept of the life that the severely retarded individual should be living if they were normal, that they cannot accept reality, and so carry the incredible burden of their nonacceptance? As if it was actually experiencing it as they should? Eh?

I recall last Christmas, when my parents, siblings, and grandparents came and stayed with us. Christmas day, before my grandparents left, we went out to IHOP to eat breakfast. There was a family at a table nearby who had a couple of severely retarded children. They would keep making these "mooing" sounds. It was actually pretty disturbing, and perhaps what is more disturbing is that these parents would actually try to carry out a normal life, taking the family out to eat, with individuals who are not even capable of having a sense of family.

Perhaps if I grew up in a family in which one of the children were severely retarded, I would "see the light", but I doubt it. I think it is a clear example of irrationality overriding natural selection, parents dragging around a half-dead body like a little girl cherising her baby doll as though it were alive. :wtf:

Maybe a better question is: if you're retarded, will you become 'unretarded' when you die and go to heaven and your mind is released from your damaged physical brain that's making you retarded in the first place?

If so, then the natural next question is if my IQ is a little below average, will it become average when I die. Is everyone equalized when they go to heaven or will some of us still be endowed with natural abilities that others do not have? Is there a hierarchy in heaven?

Tough questions, eh? Or maybe none of us has a soul and we cease to exist when we die. That makes more sense than trying to kludge together nonsensical answers to tough questions in a misguided attempt at making our anthropomorphic view of the universe 'fit' reality.

It is a walking on ice to talk about 'spiritual experiences' here, but all I did receive for an answer in my long gone intensive spiritual research (which I wish to keep active [and updated] everyday) was that there is an hierarchical system in 'heaven', but it doesn't depend on 'intelligence' like we know it, based on the brain functions. It is more represented here in our human form as 'intelligence of the heart'.
At least, as I remember, of these informations I got, there are levels, but the 'neutral zone' is not in the middle. It is slightly shifted to one side, but I can't remember to which :grin:. At least it had to do with the 'nearness' to an absolute and multiversal truth, aka g*d, and on the other side the principal differentiation of it, based in existence. (edit: meaning: that there are generally more 'unspiritual', incarnation-bound  'souls' existing around)
Now, that is over 15 years ago, but it still influences me quite a big time and I keep on balancing that out.
Our 'intelligence' or 'effectiveness' here in this realm is extremely bound to this context, but our theoretical possibilities with different contexts are much much greater.

the typical ideas of reincarnation and the finality of death doesn't ring true for me because i don't see any one person as a seperate individual.
in my view, one person is actually many people simultaneously.
as if there is one (or 36) being(s) and each being is millions of people at once.
there is alot of scientific conjecture to back this theory up too (superstring theory), along with spiritual doctrines.
