Enlightenment?
    #4733336 - 09/29/05 07:27 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

If i were to tell you i was enlightened, would you believe me, or would you try to tell me i am an insane monkey...

if only i could tell you i am enlightened, has anyone ever felt so close they could taste it, but there is that one thing that stands in your way...

for me its a girl, what is it for all of you?

Another enlightenment thread. I discovered that I already am enlightened in the last thread, so...

But as to you my fine friend. A girl can do nothing to you unless you will it. So I would say you are the one in the way of your enlightenment.

i agree with icelander....girls will only help you with life experiences, as in sex and all those other things. so go have fun with some girls, and you'll probably be that much closer. one girl probably will be the very end, because love is the last thing you should have to find enlightenment. cuz then, you'll have money, love, sex, and enlightenment. just through in a pizza, and there's all of the essentials.

yes, and that i find was easy, except this, the sad thing is that i managed to give it all up, only to have this come on as an added thought

and icelander, might i inquire as to how you are enlightened? im curious to hear other's translation of it, because i have learned that all the enlightened ones of the past were right, from a certain point of view, and i have met others with different still and i have found my own.

I am enlightened by being part of all that is. I am already complete and enlightened no matter what my petty ego (or yours) has to say about it.

I gave up the quest and now I have one less worry.

ive been in the exact same situation where ive given up everything except one thing that stood in my way, not only did it prevent me from advancing further on the path but it caused me to slide backwards a great distance.it's actually happened to me twice now and i think i've learned by lesson. jesus was telling the truth when he said you could not serve to masters, i kept trying to raise my consciouisness while simultaneously seeking worldy attractions and failed miserably. when i finally got what i was seeking in the world it didn't make me happy because i realized the inner happiness i had been working on before was so much more valuable.

but its still possible to slip into a state of consciousness where you can no longer understand this and begin to suffer. when i realized i was the Self (as i like to call all that is) i thought oh good, now i needn't ever worry about anything again, even the quest for enlightenment has become absurd. however because i didn't make an attempt to maintain that awareness i fell into a state of conciousness in which afffirming that truth (or anything else for that matter) ceased to be comforting to me and i began to suffer.

if you were enlightened, you'd have no interest whatsoever to tell anyone about it. moreover, when you're enlightened, everyone around you is enlightened as well, so one more reason not to talk about it at all. the fuck do i know, i strive for endarkment!-)

Transcendence is distinguished by lunacy, or lunacy is the refuge of enlightenment...

I dunno, ask Gomp...or redgreenvines

All who strive for Enlightenment, attain it by degree. It is indicated by increasing Compassion which does not discriminate, but if someone is still killing lizards in one's house instead of catching and releasing them (for example) then their Compassion is just an elaborate act, or they're deceiving themselves. (Parenthetically: I talk to one large lizard who lives by my front walk. Now, when I pass by, and all the lizards scurry across the walk back to the Bouganvilla hedge, this large one slows, stops, cocks his head and comes close to me. I've never fed it, just talked to it. It is sentient too).

The comparison for Enlightenment can only be humbly and therefore legitimately made between how one WAS and how one IS, NOT between two different individuals. People who misunderstand the idea that one is already [fully] Enlightened but unaware of it is tantamount to saying that since the ultimate end to life is death, one is already dead.

It is an early koan in the Denkoroku collection. It is designed to help beginner students get confused, then to release the confusion by listening instead of thinking.
