-Shpongle  (Simply the best, nothing comes close)

-Entheogenic (I think they are the closest anybody has come to the    mighty Shpongle)

-Shulman (like Shpongle and Entheogenic)

-Future Sound of London (man, can they do some wild stuff)

-Hallucinogen (if the mood calls for it)

-Ott (pure groves, nothing like it, dub master)

-Spacetime Continuum w/ Terence McKenna (If you want to think a little  )

-The Orb (put them on anytime)

-Ozric Tentacles (to get away from electronic)

-Tool (to go to some deep places)

-Pink Floyd (to feel emotion like you never have before)

-Porcupine Tree (for pure musical talent)

-Opeth (best metal out there right now, beautiful lyrics)

-The Mars Volta (the weirdest journey you can take, but awesome too)

I could add some more, but listen to these and be thankful you can hear.

I've heard so much of sphongle, but I've yet to hear them.

And yes, Opeth is the best metal band, and Tool and The Mars Volta are both great.

Concept albums you're very familiar with are also good. You need to know the story beforehand so you can really visualize and live them. A couple suggestions:

Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray: Extremely environmental and moody... A real rainy day vibe. It's kind of cheating to call it a concept album as it's just one 54 minute long song... FW is a progressive rock/metal band but this album is something entirely different. Mostly soft and ambient-like.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime: Classic progressive metal album with a story very appropriate to modern times (with the tyranny in the whitehouse )

Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory: More progressive rock/metal here. Good story and various motifs throughout the album.

Try listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn's cover of "Little Wing". That man is the best guitar player ever IMO. Give him a chance he'll blow your mind. Especially his live stuff. Its a shame all the greats die young.

I found the Drone Zone by accident. It's an internet radio station that plays perfect trip music, if you can call it music.

I second the vote for Porcupine Tree. Voyage 34 is about LSD not shrooms, but it would be great to put on during a trip. Their latest album, In Absentia, is a sort of concept album that's wonderfully subversive. Listen close, it's about a serial killer, but all the music is great, and the way it is just tinged with a tiny bit of darkness is so much more effective then stuff that is really dark. Even if you don't listen to the rest of the album, the song Heartattack in a Layby is mandatory trip listening. That song captures the way reality falls apart at critical life moments (including during psychedelic experiences) better then any other I've heard. Also mandatory, for combination of music and lyrics, is Collapse the Light into Earth.

Another great one no one mentioned is m83 out of France. Check out their website at http://www.ilovem83.com/ you can get their new album, and also be sure to check out the file called clip from the main page (warning website design is obscure and textbased, but music is worth it). Not to much lyrics, but great trip music (esp for headphones or good speakers, bad speakers like most computer speakers, will kill the music and make it obvious that the speakers are bad)

Minimalist stuff (especially Steve Reich) will completely cause your mind to melt while tripping. Try Electric Counterpoint, Different Trains, any of the phases (piano phase is particularly good), New york counterpoint.

As far as really really really heavy metal goes, Meshuggah is a tad on the intense and experimental side but their lyrics blow everyone else (and I mean everyone) out of the water, and their drummer is so good he makes Danny Carey look like a third chair in a high school marching band (and I realize Danny Carey is astoundingly good). There latest is "I" All are recommended, especially Stengah, Closed Eye Visuals, and Future Breed machine, hell get the entire Destroy.Erase.Improve album. If you are more into the insanity replicating aspects of psychedelics, then throw "Ayahuasca Experience" from their album "Rare Trax" on repeat and climb around the room barking at your tripmates, speaking gibberish at them, etc.

and the obligatory mention of tool, radiohead, the beatles, pink floyd, and Linkin Park.

(ETA: For Opeth Fans, Steve Wilson, the brain behind Porcupine Tree, produced one of Opeth's most recent albums. Also, thanks for the link Jux will check it out right now)

I used to love the Orb, but i just got sick of all the voice samples... tried em on shrooms but wasnt diggin it

Sasha I can definitly say is absolutly class on shrooms, and up there with him is Luke Slater's FreekFunk, highly recomended for shrooming! Its like unique techno/ambient/and other stuff...

Which pink floyd album is best for shrooming... bar back side of the moon

Whats some godo ambient stuff for shrooms, and spy trance also?

For some reason I still always end up listenin to some ragga/jungle and other jungle/dnb

Try to avoid really heavy music on high doses. I was amazed at how much the type of music can alter the trip. I was listening to Dimmu Borgir and soon discovered it was way too powerful to be listening to. I would describe it as emotionally overwhelming!

I alway like to listen to Spacemen 3. Also there is a band call Oneida that has a song called "Sheets of Easter" If you like heavy music wile triping this song is for you it is just 15 minutes of the same riff that goes on and on heavy as hell and becomes mesmerizing.

actually i'd never listen metaLic music when i am trippin', its not my music, makes me depressive, some local India music is good, but i prefer Astral projection, Infected mushroom or yaheL.. which is the most powerful and rebellious music kind[psychedelic Trance].. thats the key of ''brain Dance''

i love to listen to miles davis, john coltrain, the grateful dead, pink floyd and reggae when i trip...but only on mushrooms. if it's mescaline or ayahuasca i am experiencing, then the late nocturnal sounds of the earth are my prefrence. but hey there is this really cool instrumental album i heard called 'mushroom jazz 2'. there's a whole series of em (i believe it's something like 4 or 5) and it's sort of mellow, funky trip hop kind of stuff. if anyone else here has heard this, i know they'll back me. some of the music on that album was truely astonding. pleasantly haunting if you will. seriously listen to that on a trip...you'll be blown away. another great album is miles davis 'live at evil.'

I love listening to tool or NIN....the fragile is INCREDIBLE on a good stereo or headphones on shrooms or acid. Anything soft and melodic is very nice pink floyd etc. Or sometimes technos cool too if it's good crazy whacked out techno.
