I can't even imagine listening to rap while tripping. While I don't know much about rap, and really don't care to, I know that a lot of trance/psy trance artists use psychedelics. Shpongle's main man, Simon Posford, is heavily influenced by psilocybin and DMT. And its no coincidence that a majority of the people who post recommended music while tripping, mention Shpongle. I think Infected Mushroom is right up there, they are nowhere near basic sound manipulators. I highly suggest you give them, Hallucinogen and Prometheus another try, while not tripping. These artists are the most farther away from "easy" music that there is.

I'll post some favorites of mine that nobody mentioned before:

- The Doors: Riders on the storm
- Ravi Shankar: Morning love
- Le peuple de l'herbe: mr nice
- Rachmaninov: flight of the bumblebee
- Bob Marley: African herbsman
- Janis Joplin: Try
- Canned heat: Goin' up the country

And my absolute favorite: the video of Jimi Hendrix @ Woodstock !
If you thought he was good while you were sober, wait until you see him while tripping: he's AMAZING; and somehow; you're able to follow every note and give a meaning to each of his song.

[ That having said; I haven't tripped once without looking at Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Don't know how I end up watching it each time; but it's great; and has some good music too! ]

It just depends on your taste, if you think rap is all about guys dissing women and talking about drugs and gus, youd be half right, but those are issues in todays world theyre not on some fairytale shit. I love all music, and rap is definatly one of the most expresive forms of music. They use all types of production and lyrical content can cover such a wide variety within one song.

But there aint nuthin like listenin to a guitar solo while tripping!!!!

The only thing with rap music it doesn't take as much talent than othe music. They do have to be able to write the songs (poetry), not play an instrument or even be able to sing. To each their own...

You're a fuckin tool if you think electronic music is for pillheads, dude.

You claimed you could make Infected Mushroom-type music "so easily."

Make a 5 minutes track and post it. I DARE you. By the way which Infected album did you hear? You are full of shit when you say you can make this kind of music "so easily." Make a 5 minute track dude and you'll realize how talented these guys are.

Listen to their Shakawkaw track or some of their newer stuff - their entire "relax" cd from Converting Vegetarians is very different from their trance.

"rap..use all types of production and lyrical content can cover such a wide variety within one song."

rofl dude listen to some Shpongle if you think rap is so wide-ranged.. You've got it backwards - the talented electronic artists could recreate any rap song "SO EASILY," not vice versa.

Prove me wrong, I dare you - make a Shpongle-like song or an Infected Mushroom-type song.

oh yeah and Cervantes I recommend:

Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible is definitely their more "accessible" album

Pink Floyd

Incubus

Beethoven

Tool

Joe Santriani - a few tracks by Joe in a trip can always be pretty nice

Eminem

Younger Brother

Tchaikovsky

Miles Davis

Hallucinogen

--------------------
Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
In addition: SHPONGLE

It depends on how talented the person is, a rapper could be just as talented as a singer, just in HIS field, you lot can hate but rap is here to stay and will always be one of the most popular artforms, whether you like it or not. Thats the whole point of rap, no matter what you do or say we're still gonna do it. I admit alot of rappers are all image and gimmicks but not all of them. Theres no question that rappers like tupac shakur and eminem arnt just as talented or relevant to music as elvis presley. I see what you mean about talent but if your REALLY talented with words its just easily comparable with an instrument or a singer. I write, produce, play guitar, piano, flute, oboe, so i do have some idea on what im saying here.

Are you a member of the group or something? I didnt mean any offense dude.
And sorry im not gonna watse time making music i wouldnt wanna listen to again, i wont knock it at all, all im saying is in the u.k. the majority of people who listen to trance/techno etc....are pill heads. Seriously. Im not saying all of them im saying most of them.

I downloaded a few infected mushroom songs/live sets and im sure their fanbase loves them and they put alot of energy and creativity into their music but personally i cant take the fast tempo stuff it just isnt my preference, if im at a rave no problem, but trying to chill in my room it kinda has me on edge!

I do like the mixing you can do with fast tempo stuff, i just find it easier to make then slow tempo or rock stuff, im not talking outof my ass seriously, i have my own studio and i help out friends who like to make ALL sorts of music, rock, house, trance, rap........And personally i LOVE rap to death but some people dont get it, i DO get trance/techno/house it just isnt my preference, if i made that music as MY music i wouldnt feel fullfilled with myself creativly. No offense meant.

From MY point of view, dance music is basically easy to make because its based on fast tempo rhythms that are progressional and is mostly electronical sounds and effects, rap is based on a skelton track, basic beats, then vocal recording then additional production around the vocals to master the track, kinda easy but hard to actually make a GOOD song. Rock is extremely hard. period. Im talking guitars, drums and vocals to make a good rock song is fucking SO HARD to master!

I get more of a buzz doing live dj sets of trance then i do any other music, but thats only because i find it piss easy to mix and you can concentrate on the crowd more.

I can tell your an eclectic guy so im not being ignorant towards you, i love all music as im sure you do too.

Ah... the great rap/electronic debate.

Silly...

Is rap good during trips? Yes... especially if you like rap. The rhythms are very trance inducing although it can become hard to focus on the lyrics.

As for rap being easy to make, I assure you, the vast majority of it is much harder than it sounds.

Anyway, I think rock and electronic music are better during trips than most rap for one simple reason: Rock and electronic albums tend to be progressive. This means one song will set up the next song allowing the whole album to tell a musical story. There is a lot more progressive rock and electronic music than there is progressive rap.

One very nice progressive rap album is The Beastie Boys: Hello Nasty. Outkast's Love Movement is pretty progressive as well... so is The Fugees: The Score.

DJ's and MC's can be very annoying to some people during a trip. Be sensitive to others in your group if you are picking music that they do not enjoy.

Find something eveyone likes... and leave it on.

The answer is simple. Boards of Canada is some of the best trip/drug music ever. Surprised it wasn't mentioned earlier. IM me and I'll hook it up with some monster tracks.

Rap isn't very good to trip to just because the melodies aren't as solid and vibrant as some of the melodies electronica can make. i don't know it just seems that rap doesn't have any magic to it either.

As for rock, it sounds good but I didn't get lost in the music too much. It sounds more like its playing at me instead of with me. Hard to explain I guess.

Rap and rock are the best to get drunk and high too though.

Melody does not induce trance like rhythm does. Listen to some bells from Bali while sober... after 15 minutes... you'll see what I mean.

heh no I'm not a member of Infected Mushroom lol - I actually enjoy Simon Posford's (Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Younger Brother, DSP, Walter Ego...) work much more than Infected Mushroom - it is much less repetitive and he uses more layers in his sonic entertainment than any artist I have ever come across.

Chronic all I ask is that you check out some Shpongle songs - listen to it expecting to learn something and I am sure you will.. You being a music producer I am quite certain you will be very impressed with at least the QUALITY of the production, if not the complexity and composition.

Tracks of interest: Room 23c, A New Way to Say Hooray, ...and the day turned to night, Shpongle Falls, Around the World in a Tea Daze

Do you have any hip-hop/rap tracks with particularly impressive production quality to suggest to me? I'd love to be fascinated by some rap songs I have not discovered yet. Don't worry; if its really cool I'll buy the albums, as I always do.

Anyways.... peace
