My favourite bands/albums to listen to whilst tripping are:
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation Yo la Tengo - And then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out Royksopp - Melody AM Beta Band - The 3 EPs Portishead - Dummy
Although anything as long as it's not too heavy or commercially poppy normally sounds like the best music ever whilst tripping...

If you like electronica I highly recommend the album Another Late Night by DJ Dan.

There is a new Shpongle CD right around the corner.
Mr Posford comments a bit on it in his new interview: http://www.shpongle.com/hallucinogen/interviews-hallucinogen_site2005.htm
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me. In addition: SHPONGLE

I think the best music i'v ever listened to while tripping is TOOL. Their music is pretty crazy while your trippen.

ill listen to anything, i prefer Floyd when dedicating a trip to music, or some random ambient/psychedelic/techno bullshit somebody plays, or just make my own effects on my synthesizer
last trip i listened to The Postal Service and it was way better than it usually is

Here are some obvious selections (atleast for me)
Mark Farina-Mushroom jazz vol. I-V Marcus Intalex Sound Tribe Strut Old School Drum and Bass (Ragga)
Also, if you are home alone and looking for some good beats go to BBC's Radio1( www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/essentialmix/ ) and check out their essential mixes. They take the cream of electronica and give them 2 hr sets!

Music is always an important element in the trip: For me some of the best tripping songs are those with a diversity of samples, sounds and words that can provoke your brain and take it on unexpected tangents. I try and steer clear of dark or chaotic songs while tripping ( Aphex Twin, some Amon Tobin). Downtempo: Soft and mysterious beats create an atmosphere of wonder (great for nature walks).Diverse Samples used. Trance/House(proggressive ,hard): soaring vocals and rolling bass lift you into bliss.
If this sounds like the kind of experience you're looking for check out these artists:
Beats with samples/downtempo/ mystery: Verbrilli Sounds Blue States The Herbaliser Zero 7 Nightmares on Wax Thievery Corporation Kid Loco Lemon Jelly (suggest Ramblin Man, space walk) Amon Tobin (get Natureland) Boom Bip (U MUST GET: ROADS MUST ROLL)DJ Cam DJ Food Deeper Concentration 9 Lazy 9 Deadbeats Rinycyryse
Also, check out shoutcast.com for internet radio listening; with a stream ripper you can accumulate great tripping music from the downtempo genre stations: BeatBlender, LoungeRadio, BuzzoutRoom, Grooveplay
Euphoric/ vocal House: Dumonde ( djs: jam x and De Leone) Syntax
For a real funny bizarre mind f*ck, download some Chris Morris tracks. Its not really music but you will laugh till convulsions.
PM me for other suggestions to numerous to mention, Will trade: burned dvds filled with Downtempo, House/Trance or Dub meticulously organized from my abundant collection.

We listened to quite a few good albums last time me and a few others were tripping:
Moody Blues - Days of the Future Passed - More specifically, the songs 'Tuesday Afternoon' and 'Nights in White Satin'.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland - What can I say? There's some kick ass, trippy songs on this album... definitely worth listening to songs like '1983...' and 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp'.
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - This literally induced some kick ass visuals; the wallpaper transformed into green little Buddhas which started dancing for me.
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper and the Lonely Hearts Club Band - Another trippy album. Listened to the song 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' (LSD, anyone?).
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced - Hendrix again. Most the songs are interesting, even the purely instrumental ones. 'Waterfall' has quite a slow tempo and it's the one I remembered best.
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak - Not sure why we had this. Was a cool listen but couldn't really compare to the others. It's more something I would listen to while sober.
Motorhead - Ace of Spades - Haha, see above. This was just ridiculous. We had to turn it off because this one guy ran out of the room.
Grateful Dead - American Beauty - A very cool album to trip to.
Peace

Gong. "Camembert Electrique" is an excellent album, and any of the "Radio Gnome Invisible" trilogy are triffic too (but parts II and III are better than I). http://www.planetgong.co.uk/
