Might I suggest Volume 3 of the Ultra-Lounge collection which is called Space-capades. It is 60's era tunes like those you might find in technology or health film reels of the time. Lots of string plucking and such. There is not a sad note to be heard throughout the whole albumn and I often rely on it to pull me up from whatever depths I feel I might be entering, it never fails me.

One rap album thats good listening is dr dre's the chronic 2001, i love the instrumental version of that album, i usually load up loads of instrumentals when im tripping and if something turns me off i just skip the track, i got over 11,000 tunes on my computer so lots of variety! I cant really recommend stuff off the top of my head but ill definatly check out that stuff you listed

I am very familiar with Chronic 2001 (fuckin cool!) but was not aware that there was an "instrumental" version out there. I will see if I can track it down - thanks for the tip.... let me know if you come up with some other recommendations and let me know what you think of Shpongle
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me. In addition: SHPONGLE

Yeah i actually prefer the instrumental version, you can download them pretty easy, soon as my nets back up ill check em out.
I also like eminems underground stuff before he blew up, i like his new shit too but his old stuff has a certain feel to it.
Mostly i listen to loads of hip hop instrumentals.
Tempations by 2pac, that instrumental always sends my head into another world. I like modern tracks that sample oldies, because you get that modern but still classic feel to it.

If you are after Hiphop for tripping to then your gonna have to look a lot harder than doctor dre, eminem, tupac etc, Their music is just too bland and sterile, for tripping you need something more abstract. A few of my personal favorites for the occasion:
Dr. Octoagon - Dr. Octagynacologist Canibal Ox - The Cold Vein Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus MF Doom - Operation Doomsday Non Phixion - The Future is now Jedi Mind Tricks- The Psyco-social, chemical, biological & electro-magnetic manipulation of human consciousness
On more of an instrumental tip: RJD2 - Deadringer Fingathing - Superhero music / The big red nebula band The Herbaliser - Something wicked this way comes Nightmares on Wax - Car boot Soul / Smokers Delight
If I would suggest any one tune to download check for : Taskforce - Butterfly Concerto Its all about nature, has a medevil kind of melody to it and is so weird that its a thousand miles away from the steretypical image of what "rap" is and what can be done with it.

while we're all recommending rap... everybody check out eyedea & abilities..
first born is a bad-ass trippy album (though i like him more when not tripping, eyedea's lyrics are really psychadelically inspired).. and also 'the many faces of oliver hart' is a great album.
as far as other tripping music goes, i too concur with shpongle. i turned on 'tales of..' on my last trip, and as dorset perception got about 30 seconds into it, i proclaimed "this man has mushrooms down to a T!"

when i was tripin i forgot all my music. I just turned on the radio. I just found songs that made me feel good. I didnt think that i would be into the kind of music that i was listening to but i was. First listned to some monks singing. Then classical music. I then turned on some rap. I found that is was alot of fun listening to that kind of music. I was havin so much fun until i looked at my hands and they where bear claws...
