Man, if there is one thing I would never recommend: it's listening to death metal while tripping hard.

To me; that would definately produce anxiety and fear, possibly resulting in a bad trip.

Try some real blackmetal, it is mighty music with its won atmospehere - Satyricon, Immortal, Summoning, it can bring you to another world(a medieval one full of orcs)

Also some doom metal has also its atmospere, try Skepticism or Thergothon. They are incredibly heavy and depressing, will influence your mood even if you are sober, on a trip it will take u even more far away...

I enjoy the beauty of extreme metal, but these days I listen to more warm melodies, the dark side olf music scares me, muahahallllllllllll

I really don't like metal while tripping but, White Zombie is on my list of cool trip albums. La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol 1 and, Astro Creep 2000 are good ones. Also kickass death band while not tripping is Dying Fetus! You can't get harder than Fetus and play as well as they do. Its just simpily impossible.

Fuck yea dude, Opeth for teh fucking win.

Opeth man, listen to Opeth. get the album Morningrise.

i would suggest these opeth albums, basically all of them are good. and i would read the lyrics a bit, because most of their albums are conceptual albums with stories, and that can really make the album even more beautiful than they are musically.

Morning, Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse, Black Water Park, Damnation.

Damnation is Opeths soft album, it really doesnt have any hard parts at all, however it is still beautiful becaue Opeth are musicians to the highest point.

If you want some pretty good hard metal, you could check out Amon Amarth, they are my 2nd most favorite band, next to Opeth =D

Amon Amarth are heavily inspired by Norse Mythology and the Norse way of life. Almost all of their songs are about battle and bravery and what not. Vs. The World is probably their best album and most approachable to someone that isnt really into metal.

Vehemence is a good death metal band. Helping the World to See is a good album, and God Was Created is a pretty good album, its also a Conceptual album, but dont give death metal bands to much credit when it comes to writing stories =D

I realize Tool isn't exactly metal, but they're close enough, and they're the best tripping music around.

Tripping on death metal is no problem because I rarely understand what they're saying.

I'd listen to Meshuggah and Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects. Can't think of much else.

It's GREAT to trip to metal. Try these out, I PROMISE you will love it!

Ram-Zet - Escape: A concept album about the inner conflict of a schizophrenic.

Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernal: Very progressive, atmospheric, layered metal with a nostalgic and 'carnival' feel to it.

Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk: Of course this is one of the best black metal albums ever released, with highly emotional songs.

Ephel Duath - The Painter's Palette: Progressive metal with influences of jazz, trip hop, techno, etc.

Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Their Fame: A beautiful metal sound track suitable for Lord of the Rings.

Negura Bunget - N Crugu Bradului: Expertly made atmospheric music of the nihilistic and naturalistic variety.

Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God: The scariest and eeriest (and possibly most experimental) music you'll ever hear.

Drudkh - Autumn Aurora: A wall of noise that puts you in touch with nature.

Obtained Enslavement - Soulblight: Technical black metal done well.

Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris: Possibly the most technical, progressive, and yet melodic death metal you'll ever hear, with a marked Eastern influence.

Betray My Secrets - s/t (self-titled album): This concept CD attempted specifically to create metal of a shamanistic nature, and I think they certainly succeeded on some of the songs (others are less impressive).

Burzum - Filosofem **or** Hvis Lyset Tar Oss: Minimalistic, nihilistic metal done right.

Ulver - Bergtatt: A metal band which such a different sound than you're used to.

Ah yeah
Emperor and Burzum are also old favorites of mine, they have their distinctive sound, more symphonies of pain and suffering, muhaha...

I don't think I'd enjoy the heavy guitars.
