I really wish I would have found this thread a couple of years ago!  I've thrown away hundreds of dollars worth of bags. I've tried bags from every single vendor on Amazon, and I've had bags from every one of them that turned into the exact compressed white mass you described, and then stalled for months until they eventually turned yellow, green, or black. I think I've had maybe 1 success for every 3 or 4 failures.

I found this guide, followed the steps, and about a month later got the results you see here!

EDIT: after 24h in the dehydrator, I ended up with 31g. I'm gonna call that a successful first flush from a bag that I was thinking about throwing away!

Thanks a bunch!

I will try to save my ready to grow B+ cake (or give it a better home), lets see how it goes! Thank you Beef for this TEK, made a lot of things clearer to me and gave great pathway out of frustration

This is the beauty:

it came full of aborted sidepins smashed against the walls and lid. After that it did a small flush inside the bag. So i am mostly just giving a try to get the feeling for the Tub TEK.

- used a 15L Tub, made somewhat according to the Pastywhyte’s Ez Tub specifications
- preped the coir with hot water to Field capacity(?) and let it cold down to room temp.

(Sorry for the crap foto. kind hard to press and take a decent photo at same time hahah)

- Gave the cake a cold water schock for 12h in the fridge and Broke it inside the Tub and mixed with two parts of coir (just used the same container the cake was in two times).
as i understand 2(coir):1(spawn) should the ratio, correct?
and pressed everything.

- added a bit (maybe too much) of pseudo casing (coir only), pressed again.

- this is the final result of the Cake to Bulk:

I inserted two probes to check for RH and Temp, more out of curiosity than anything. I will try to guide myself by this topic

I am just a bit confused about the configuration of the tub for the colonization phase.
Should it just be dark and full RH?
Do i need to tape the holes of the tub for any reason other than maintaining RH?

That was a little thick top layer, but it should be fine. It will need some light, avoid direct sun light though. With the ez dial I tape the top row on the short sides and the middle hole on the long side until I'm past pins unless I see water pooling on the surface.

Thanks Kloakk!

Did as you suggested and seems to have worked ok!
although on the end of week 2 it started to have a lot of condensation on the walls, so i removed the tape on all holes.

started seeing some pins after two weeks (day 14):

today (day 16):

Condensation on the walls still strong (almost no condensation on the top), is this a problem?
Should i open the lid a bit?

i see some side pins, i guess it is because i didn't compress it enough and because the box has some play allowing air and humidity between the substrate and wall when the box is moved.

i am also still wondering about surface moisture, because i can see no apparent moisture on the surface of the casing, but maybe thats because the substrate and casing where not fully colonized maybe due to too little spawn. My spawn was a ready to grow bag, so probably the substrate was already "diluted".

Excited to try to clone this batch and do the whole cycle my self

As long as the condensation don't pool on the surface or your substrate isn't drying out it doesn't really matter how much condensation there is on the wall. I have had a couple of tubs where the surface didn't get colonized and then the regular surface conditions won't apply, just keep an eye on the surface and don't let the coir dry out too much.

Seems your pinset will be done in a day or two and then you don't need to keep the surface as humid. If there is space between the substrate and the walls there will be sidepins, doesn't matter either as long as you get a good pinset on the surface, next time compress like it owes you money

With all the holes open I would just let it ride, even a little fuzzy feet is fine, if the fuzzy feet keeps climbing up the stipe or you get mycelium on your caps you can take off the lid, close the latches and put the lid on top

And yeah, wait for it to grow out, find a nice cluster and get some clones :awesomenod:

Hi, well, this is my second try; using all the resources that you specifically referenced not to use. It's been stuck like this for a couple weeks I think. Do I still just keep waiting? I don't see any moisture on it but I have not let myself open that lid. I took that picture finally so I could track it and it has not changed since then 2 weeks ago :/
