Yeah I feel like I shoulda been on to the next ones a while ago at this point. I noc’d them… Jesus, maybe 5+ months ago at this point? Before the baby’s birthday so before October. Block couldn’t have been more than a month old at the time of inoculation, but that puts the whole thing over half a year at least. They took a while to colonize, and then I didn’t have time to fruit them during the birthday/holidays and ended up with a ton of overlay, which got me to this tek, and even that was over a month ago now. I got a good harvest out of the one, recovered genetics, maybe I just move on to the next tubs.

maybe?

brother. 5 months ago is insane.  the fact that you got anything at all is awesome.
inpersonally start new tubs about every 3 weeks .  the longest ill hang onto something is maybe a month and a half.

this project is beyond old. its infirm.  its senile.  its feeding baby skunks living undet the porch insisting that they are kittens. its eating pints of latex paint beliving it to be yogurt.

its time, brother

With great respect for Beef, here are my results from converting my AIO bag to a tub (had been trying to do the dino egg but the block broke up so I just smashed it into the coir and made a tub).

I’m hoping for a 2nd flush now. Thank you for a good thread!!

Hi Sri, Thanks for the info. I'll pick some up. That's very encouraging that you're seeing improvement! I'm going to figure this cultivation process out damnit lol😁 Possibly you could give me some first hand advice about what to expect with micro dosing? Thanks so much!

This block is deceased! It is bereft of life! It is an ex-block!

Yeah, you’re right. Honestly I’m glad I kept genetics from what I got, which was honestly a great harvest, because I bet those spores will be good and hardy, given the circumstances. I’ve been putting off the next set of jars just because I was waiting for something to happen here. I guess I’ll just inoculate the jars, and if nothing is grown by the time they’re ready and I need the tubs, I’ll go ahead and bury those puppies in the back yard and see what happens. For science, at least. Honestly block 1 has new pins since I’ve been regularly misting. Clusters, too, so I’m genuinely curious as to what’s gonna happen here.

Actually, begs the question, are the leftover bags bad? I had bought another 4 like 3-4 months ago that I’ve been sitting on just because these were taking so long. Figured I’d use some old GT and Lion’s Mane MSSes I had sitting around just so it all doesn’t go to waste. Wasn’t gonna go through the whole putting them to agar and making an LC deal, especially since the spores and bags are old, but do bags expire or something after a certain time?

I’m definitely putting the recovered spores from the flush to agar this week. After what they went through, I feel like these genes are a keeper. Thanks for the advice, and wish me luck 😂

Hey Beef! Thank you so much for this excellent write up! You're so helpful to us newbies☺️

Here's a pic of where it's at now. Do you think it looks ok? Should it be fluffy like this? It resembles a few contamination pics I've seen. If it is ok, when do I begin allowing FAE? I can see slight water beading or crystallization on the mycelium or bacteria 😩

Temps are running 77-78.100% humidity
Set up is just like you instructed.

That block is pining for the fjords.

hm.  maybe i should add this to the tek but.

we always have some degree of fae from the moment we spawn until we harvest.  if youre following this tek and you have some holes in your tub, you have fae.  its a matter of balancing it so that surface conditions are maintained.

Yes I have the holes where you said to put them but I thought you said to put tape over all the holes so I must have misunderstood. I'll now try to maintain a balance. Thanks again!

even a looose lid is quite a lot of fae.  the holes are to "turn up the gas" more

PININ' for the FJORDS?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?

Well, you can call me Slartiblartfast because, believe it or not, some good fjords were just what I needed here, after a fashion. Turns out that getting some water deep in there was what the block wanted after all.

The depleted block, which I’ve taken to calling Marty, is well and truly done, I’d think. He’s earned his rest, and I’ll trouble him no further. Doesn’t even have the energy to finish absorbing those aborts after a week now, and I’m not gonna try and force him.

However, the slow block, goes by the name of Jennifer these days, has started increasing the size of those pins, particularly the ones on the sides that have made a bit of a microclimate with the walls of the tubs. They growin’. More pins and clusters showing up, too. Either she likes the extra water, or, more likely, she heard me talking about this “bury them in the backyard” business and decided to do something to prove she’s still in the game. I’ll give the old girl a stay of execution while I colonize the next set of jars and see what we get! Y’all will be the first to know. Wish me luck!

And really, when you get into the weeds of the ideal gas law and gas exchange, it's not gonna take much to maintain Fresh Air Exchange. Fiddling around with holes and whatnot is probably just manipulating the evaporation rate, and how much moisture recondenses onto the substrate. But then that will also be largely determined by temperature, exposure to lights or sunshine, air currents outside the tub, and the moisture content of your substrate.

I've repeated for years that evaporation off the substrate surface is a major pinning trigger, but that's honestly one of those factoids thst I'm not really sure about. When I think about it, I have no idea whether that's how it actually works. I just know that I don't want my pinssgs interrupted by surface conditions that go Dagoba or Arrakis.

Honestly, FAE is one of those terms that I' feeling less and less comfortable using the more I think about it. I'm already ready to call contamination "non-target destructive organisms" or something like that. FAE is a bit of a hold-over from the days of restricting airflow and light exposure during colonization. Which makes it feel a bit like we're saying "adjustment or the four humours" or "keeping the devil out of your mouth when you sneeze."

Had one small flush and then soaked it for like a day.. It's very damp but it's been sitting like this for a month+. Been misting but nothing. Roll it in that coir shit maybe? New at this

I had a failed first crop last summer. After my two all in one bags colonized partially, I did the break and shake and no visible growth of any sort occurred after that.

I bought nine all in one bags late last year. I used three types of spores from two suppliers. Colonization speed varies widely.

I started the bags in early December. Possibly due to low December-January temperatures, colonization was very slow.

I opened up two bags, trying for the fruiting stage, four days ago. They have been receiving indirect light from outside. Temperature has been 65-70 for several weeks.

I was told by someone on another forum that I should post pictures as they thought my growth looked suspicious.

Any advice is appreciated.
