god damn. ill say this yet again:  if being a tc is being able to explain complex information reliably based on knowledge and experience, you are who the real tc around here is. If it was based on a #4# metric, i do think you might even have some other kind of title but the real ones know, B.  Oh, we know.

Ive wanted to start a system a system like the one youre taking about so bad and ive got some ideas that we could actually use without  saying exactly where we are.

the following map could be labeled just like the usda growing zone map....this would place me as "semi arid"

its not a perfect system no, but it would be better than nothing and i think get us in the ball park.

the trick would be getting people to use the system.  hmmm... if only there was a loudmouth tc who constantly posts who could maybe get people on board... hmmm...

And I like the map concept, it's a start.

Woke up to this this morning. I am guessing over 5 pounds wet for 1st flush. Scale won't go that high. Not bad for a FU AIO bag. The other shoe box tub to starting to pin also.

Hey Beef,

I seriously had this AIO bag ready to be tossed out but your method has gotten me this far! Thank you so much to you and everyone who have been giving me such great advice on my first grow. I've read your Hitchhiker post and will be following the recommended tek going forward once I finish this.

Last couple questions I hope! Should I introduce fruiting conditions as I would if I were doing a full size mono tub or is there a different method since I'm not doing a full tub? I have great surface conditions with tiny crystal like water droplets on mycelium. I just can't find anything definitive as to whether I should introduce light or more air exchange. Secondly, when I flush, should I spray water to re-hydrate the block or just the container it's in? I apologize for my ignorance. This is my first time.

Thank you again everyone!!

do not apologize for asking questions! im here for ya.

the term "fruiting conditions" are kindof a leftover from the days when we differentiated.  we dont anymore . youre already in fruiting conditions hence the fruit! so its really a matter of balancing surface conditions.  i think even the term fae is kinda dated.  ill try and help more tomorrow if someone doesnt jump in, havent been feeling well.

Hope ya feel better, Beef! I’ll see if I can help out here.

So it sounds like you already have the sparkly surface that indicates good moisture. You wanna try and keep it that way. If it gets too dry, you can close some holes or spray a little until it’s back to how it is now. If it’s too wet, open some holes, especially since conditions that are too wet can encourage the growth of bacteria and mold and such. Definitely don’t want that. Check the linked post in the HHG from ComebackKid, which does a better job of the details than I’m doing right now.

The convention here is that once it’s in the tub and you’ve got it where it sounds like you’ve already got it, you keep it there until you get your pins and fruits. Personally, with the room my tubs are in, I was getting some fuzzy feet that may or may not have been from not having enough airflow, but I have a couple holes open now and it seems ok. Just keep that surface sparkly but not soaking. You don’t want water to pool!

For subsequent flushes, with this tek in particular, I found that a full dunking is obviously a no-go since you have a large vertical mass in the middle, making it a bit hard to submerge, and you don’t wanna pull your dinosaur egg or you’re gonna get coir all over the place (if you’re using coir, according to the tek). What I did was inject the egg with water until it started to “leak” out the sides, which was about 50 mL for me. The coir itself was still around field capacity and just needed some light misting, and this method helped it stay that way without having to somehow squeeze it in the tub.

Hope I got all that right!

Also, update on my particular situation: Jennifer AKA Jenny (Got Nothing) From The Block had to be put down today at the age of 7 months. She was laid to rest in the backyard, surrounded by her rotting pins, having produced nothing but a first “flush” of tiny pins before the tek. Hopefully she does better in nature than she did with me. Smelled terrible, so it was time for her to go. Pretty orange on the inside, too. No idea what that was about.

Crazy thing, though: Marty, the one who got the 50cc intramycelial fluids, has a new flush coming in at the ripe old age of 7 months! At this point, I’m just stringing it along for science to see what happens. I’ve got some jars brewing so I never have to do these bags again, but I do wanna see how this turns out. Growing out some of his spores from the first flush on agar, because those genes earned it! Probably gonna put it on a slant and maybe make some LC. He’s a keeper.

Hello all,

Thank you Beef and all who helped me with my first time! I surely wouldn't have gotten this far without your great post and everyone's help here. I can't thank you enough Psilygoose (sp?) for your help getting me pointed in the right direction! I'll definitely be doing PF Tek going forward.

Can someone tell me if these look good please? I thought about attempting to get a spore print when these guys are ready. Or should I wait until the next batch due to the bad start they had in a AIO bag? Thanks everyone. I hope you're feeling better Beef!

Thanks so much Beef! That makes me feel better about how it's turning out! I put a heating pad thermostat probe under the brick. I never needed to use heat though. Can anyone give me a timeframe to begin harvesting by looking at where they are now?

as soon as you see the foreskin of the veils break you can harvest. you can wait longer but they will spore all over and turn everything black.
