Re: Beef Supreme on: Rescuing Your Fucked-Up All-in-one kit (Or whatever less-than-ideal situation you have) [Re: psilygoose]

Thanks. I'll try the techniques, but it's a little unrealistic to heat my whole apartment instead of the heat mat. The bags are a good inch or so above it, and the thermostat sensor is down near the bottom. I had thought the aquarium pump would be needed as the area I'm in is pretty dry. This has taught me otherwise.

What temps are you seeing for your apartment? My grow area fluctuates a decent amount and gets as low as 66F and like 15% humidity

60-65 Fahrenheit. Don't have a hygrometer, so no idea what the humidity is. Dry enough that I always shock myself touching anything metal.

This is perfectly fine temperature. Psilocybin mushrooms grow with no issues from 60-80 degrees, and tolerate brief windows outside of it too (although ymmv). It'll grow mayhap a little slower the closer you get to 60, but it will grow as long as you did everything else right.

Yeah, on the conservative end, I'd tell pretty much anyone the above.

Below 60, I think, just really gets into various particulars. As does above 80. Ambient humidity, airflow, exposure to outside air or warm interior walls or sunlight, the exact insulating properties of the container, the adaptability of that particular culture to extremes, the cleanliness of the culture/spawn, etc.

I'm honestly at a point where I'll take any slow-downs in growth. I work hard to get clean, robust cultures and spawn, and then they drown me in work lol

I appreciate all the advice telling me that my attempts at growing mushrooms can be done in my cold, dry apartment instead of within a humidified and heated box. I will do that in the future, but what about the current all-in-one bags? Are they irredeemably contaminated? They don't smell, if that helps in addition to the other descriptions of their environment.

it's promising that they don't smell, and based on your pictures they don't look all that different from my AIO bags that I had success with following Beef's rescue. If it were me I wouldn't throw in the towel quite yet

Hello everyone,

Thank you so very much for that amazing post! I hope I'm posting this correctly. I need help identifying whether my bag is contaminated please. I'm having a hard time seeing in due to all the ripples in the bag from the grain impressions.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Its really hard to tell what's going on in the second to last pic, but are those not pins?

Edit: and the third pic down looks like a pin

So I am doing brf cakes and I wanted a bigger yield and beef had me shred the cake and case it and three days later it's looking great!

It must have been an excessive moisture issue. Two days after turning off my aquarium pump humidifier, I now have pins in both all-in-ones. We'll see what kind of yield I'll get from the abused cakes, but thank you to all that gave me advice.

Hi everyone

I have a question about Beef's method. After I've packed the dinosaur with his new clothes 😆, should I put him in the tub alone or do I put the remainder of coco bliss in the bottom first? He said something about putting half of the egg down into what? Hopefully someone will answer soon as I have the egg all ready to go. Also, I have a mushroom bulb. Should I add light? Thank you!!

Defer to beef on the best answer, but personally I packed it in around the bottom, for two theories/reasons:

1. Mushrooms are mostly water, and they need water to grow nice and big, plus this just generally helped keep conditionsin the tub nice even with lots of fae (eventually) in a dry climate; and

2. Packing it around the bottom of egg reduced really low side pins which are annoying generally and especially the way my egg was set up.

Also I figured I made it, why not use it. And the great thing is you can balance high moisture with more fae, and fae is a Good Thing. Might be more of a problem if you're in a humid climate though.

But anyway, it worked amazing for me.

ETA: One tip, if I was doing this again I'd keep the coir layer on the top of the egg just a bit less thick than the sides as well. I think that would further encourage top pinning as the egg seemed to pin in the areas the mycelium reached the air first. It was easier to put/keep the coir on top (because gravity) so my egg ended up looking like it had male pattern baldness when it fruited. But I still got 85 grams dry from my f'ed up AIO block because this tek is amazing.

Thanks so much. That's how I did mine too (packed bottom) but I thought that was what he said to do lol. Anyway, his pics show them in a bare tub so I'm pretty sure I shouldn't make a nest of coco bliss for it to sit in. Was yours in a bare tub?

I made a nest for it. Actually what happened is the tub (I think 30qt) was too small and so mid-fruit I cut it around the bottom with a hot knife and moved the bottom to a 66qt pasty easy dial tub with some water and perlite on the bottom. Kinda crazy but it worked. I think I would have been better off following this tek, but instead of making an egg just putting it in a shoebox size container just a bit taller/wider/longer than the block (maybe 12qt if you can find the right dimensions). Then pack in the coir all around it, give it a top layer, and when it's fully colonized and ready for fruiting, just move the shoebox to a 66qt eazydial tub. But that's not a tek, just what I would do.

That is crazy! You have a very creative mind. That's genius! Ok, I have it in a tub now so I will keep it in the dark until (hopefully) fully colonized and then begin fruiting. There's so many different teks. It's amazing. I'm reading the Hitchhiker one now. I really hope I get some fruit. I've never tried it before. I'm hoping it will help me with my depression. You've been so helpful. I really appreciate it.

Depression is the same reason I'm growing and yes, two months in? after daily Microdosing for six weeks it's really starting to help. I also add in SAMe and L-theanine.

Bit of an update/cry for help: the second flush block gave me one fruit and aborted everything else, or is in the process of doing so. Didn’t dunk it long enough, but it’s still good (and still faster than the one that ain’t made shit but pins) so I think I’m gonna go ahead and give it some water injections and see where that goes.

The other block still hasn’t made anything but pins. There are new ones, and even a nice little cluster on top, but they just aren’t growing. It’s been drying out even with careful management of the holes, so I’ve been trying to micromanage the spraying, but it’s still just not growing. Smells fine, and new pins are coming, but they just don’t wanna grow out. They’re not even aborting, just stalling out, though I noticed a couple did start to get reclaimed today. They were doing construction nearby and the tops fell off and dried everything the hell out, so I’m assuming that’s why. Still, it’s bizarre that the second block at least got through a good long flush under the same conditions but this block just doesn’t wanna do it. I have more air going to this block now to try and encourage it, and I’m keeping it sparkly, but it’s just not happening. Is it possible I’ve got some hidden contam inside or something? I did notice some metabolites, but there were none until now, so I don’t know. Thanks!

Also, agreed on the “light on top” comment, because as you can see on the second block, it hasn’t even tried to fully colonize that top layer of coir after two weeks. Again, I think it needs more water overall, and maybe it’s just depleted, but the thicker layer of coir on top didn’t do it any favors. Block 1, the lazy one, had no problem colonizing the coir, but it’s also not pinning on top except for one cluster and has preferred the sides. I’m guessing it’s had better humidity there, but I’ve been pretty generous with the misting. Still, the top does dry out more. Maybe I’ll move the tubs and see what happens. They aren’t getting direct light, and I haven’t even had the heat on the last couple days, but it’s still drying out.
