humplok303,
The DB kit owners are idiots? So when was the last time you had a quarter pound of dry shrooms lying around your place? Thats what I thought.

Dude, I've seen plenty of casings yeild 3 to 4 ounces 1st flush, money spent less than 20 bucks, to pay 100 bucks for a kit is STUPID. down right dumb. U'd have to be a complete dumbass to fall for that bullshit.

C'mon Taz, what's the use in having money if you can't indulge in some conveniences. It would take many people more than an hour just to go collect the dung. 100 bucks is like nothing. What's the big deal?

ps. If you'll make me a kit for $20, let me know where to send the cash. Oh, and no, I haven't gone the DB route.

egghead, I was talking about doing casings no dung at all, Karen said she got 3 ounces dry 1st flush and all she used was brf/verm and cased with 50/50.

but your giving me an ideal...I could go scoop up some horse shit and place it in a container and sell that shit, it would be the same as the db kit anyway. I know, I know, they are trying to make it look like they got some secret ingredient in them but they don't, it's just plain old dung they placed in a bag and sell for a 100 bucks, what a rip.

Gawd Damn!! Was she using a kiddie pool as a container?? I wouldn't know what to do with'em all.. Thats 2 1/4 lbs wet. Musta been a lot of cakes. Much larger in mass than the DB kit, I'd suspect.

Anyway, I'm just saying that there are probably people that would find it worthwhile to invest the cash rather than the time. It might be more convenient than finding/preparing dung or managing 200 BRF jars like Karen.

egghead, she only used 12 and i think it was in 2 pans, I can case 5 cakes and get 2 ounces easily.

2 oz dry on a first flush? That would be like 30 or so 25 g shrooms. I guess that sounds reasonable. I'd heard/read somewhere that for each half-pint cake, expect about 4 dry gram harvest? What would you say the average is?

Are you saying that cased grain does as good at dung-based spawn subs? Did you see Holy Diver's pics? That was a hella flush.

yes I did see that pic egghead, awesome, yeah when you bust up cakes they tend to pin more and produce more shrooms, I'd say the average for a cake is 2 to 4 and the average for a cassed cake would be like 12 to 14 grams dried.

Ryche, I am not trying to get into it with you, I already explained about that pic, I have also posted some of my own, I guess you were not there that day. And I'm an not trying to make friends, I can care less what people think of me, hell it makes me feel good when someone takes time out of their own miserable fucked up life to think about me...hell, I usaully defend you when someone flames ya. why you digging up old dirt? I didn't mean to offend you over the db kit, I think it is silly myself. I understand your offering it at that price because your doing all the work minus the actuall incoluation. but just to buy the db by itself is way outrageous, it's almost as much as the kit itself. and so far there has been 3 times as many complaining about the kit lately than praising it. why is that? I mean if your doing all the work and all a person has to do is add the spores, then why are sooo many people having problems with it??

Don't get me wrong, I think your a cool guy, you support the FSR and you have a huge site with lots of options. But I think that as a vendor, when you see so many people haveing problems with the db kit, you should do something to make it right. 100+ bucks is alot of money. hell if it was half the price your offering it for now I would consider buying it and giving it a try.

so I will end this post with an apology for offending you and will watch what I say. peace bro.

Taz I dont know about you defending me. I just found another post in the spore vendor section you quoting my syringe prices at $14-$18 which is very incorrect. All of our cubensis spore syringe prices are $12-$14.
That really rubbed me wrong when I keep seeing ppl post misinformation about our business to put us down.
And your constantly coming on here saying how big of yields you get from cakes yet I have seen anything of what you boast yet. Where are those pics I'll take a look.

Yeah, we've had a few problems with the grain with the kits. Nothing more. Its new and were working out the final bugs. One of those bugs was to change the grain to the highest quality grain we could find, which is shipping now. We also are adding 3 bags of grain for the 10lb kit, and 4 bags of rye berrie grain for the 15lb kit. All you need is ONE to get it going. That leave a lot of room for error.

Also note, a lot of ppl do not post here. And most ppl only post when they have something to complain about. I've only seen about 5 or 6 different growers post anything on the kit. We've sold way more then 5 or 6 kits. I'm still catching up on posts here from the last 2 weeks, but I have'nt seen anything negative about THE DB KIT yet. Other then the grain problems, which we have fixed.

Anyway, if your going to come here calling our kits a waste of money, and you can grow just as much if not more mushroom from cake growing, (bullshit) then put up some pics to back that mouth up, or go out and do all the work involved with these premium compost kits and sell them at a cheaper price yourself.

oh and one more thing ryche, I don't do just cakes, I also do casings with dung/compost as well as BRF/verm I always have real good luck because I add a little something to my substrate. but, you yourself should know that heavy yields can be achieved with just about any form are way of growing as long as the conditions are right, and practice makes perfect. and as far as that pic your talking about, I was trying to show what can be achieved, I got my facts wrong about the flush so sue me, I already posted all this a couple of times before, And I never claimed it as my own, so stop calling me a liar.

Ok ok.. Taz... that post was misleading when you used PF's pic. No, you didn't lie, but it was misleading. My point is you are always boasting such huge flushes, and you can do better then that...etc... usually from cakes, yet I haven't seen any pics. And we know you have the capability to post them.
Taz, I"ve seen some nice flushes from grains such as birdseed and rye. I"ve seen some decent flushes from straw. I've seen some nice flushes from horse dung. But none of them compares the flushes I've been seeing from DB compost. And that is why I stand behind this product. I know it works, and damn good. The pictuers I post clearly illustrate that.

Re: DB kit in progress [Re: Dan]

BTW, Dan, dont worry about that one small area not colonizing. That does happen from time to time.
Even as it does with cakes. And what do we recommend to growers using cakes. When you birth them, cut it out. You really dont need to with the DB compost. If 95% of it colonizes, consider it ready to do its magic.
I would also recommend waiting a few days after its 95-100% colonized before initiating the light cycle.
It gives the mycelium a little more time to develop its network for strong flushes.

The problems with the grain have also been fixed now. DB went back to Stamets grain. Its a lot more expensive then most, but lately it seems to be the best grain in the WA area. The last batch of grain he bought seemed to have a higher concentration of bacteria then in the past. Thus causing the stunted growth with some growers. So hopefully we shouldnt hear of any more grain problems.

ok ryche so I got my info wrong on your prices, i will go change that, I didn't mean to rub you the wrong way. ok I grew 1 cake natural and 1 cake that got dunked to see if it made a difference, the 1st cake had the normal yield, the dunked cake doubled in yield, so yes I can boast about that. and if you read the post right I don't recall saying that cakes would out do the db kit, what I was saying was you can get the same casing any other way because that other guy was asking when he had a 1/4 pound laying around his house, I don't doubt that the db kit will produce huge amounts, I know how dung is when used.

Ok, I never said growing cakes would out do the db kit, I said casings, casings, I know damn well one would have to grow with 3x the cakes to produce the same results as casings, I talk cakes to a lot of new growers because it's the best way for them to get started and to learn and understand. telling a newbie to case when they have never grown before is like trying to teach advance trig to someone who doesn't understand the simple math yet. do u see where I'm coming from? people are always telling newbies to case then next month that newbie is posting WTF all my shit is contaminated.

so I will take back what I said about your db kit being a waste of money. but you yourself just admitted to haveing problems with it and your trying to fix it, so what about those who bought the kit and had a problem with it? does this mean your going to replace it with the new kits??

Those few that had problems with the grain sent, we sent them new grain if they requested it, xtra bags even, and spores if they needed it. We stand behind it all the way. And we learn from the end user here of how to make the kit even better for years to come. I'm still only reading a couple post here of ppl that had problems from our end, the grain. The few others I've read are from ppl not following the instructions and playing with them to much. Using heating pads underneith, misting and fanning all the time.
And still, they had great success.
Anyway, enough bickering... lets enjoy the mushrooms and The Shroomery.

ok, that's cool ryche, I can respect someone who stands behind their product and make it right, and yes you are right about people playing around with it. that's because some probably pm'd them and told them too. are they just weren't patient enough from the get go. I am sure the db kit is everything u say it is and more. But let me ask u this, when the db kit is exausted and a person wanted to do it again, do they have to pay the high price for a whole new kit? and if your selling just the substrate does this mean that the person will then have to do all the work? meaning, cooking up grain them selves etc? are does the replacement come already to go minus the spores?
thanks

Thanks for the reply Ryche. I can view the pics just fine. Does anyone else not see pics? Too much pointless bickering in my thread already (go away Taz). I gave it 3 days at 90-95% colonized then initiated lighting. The last section is closing in but ever so slowly.
