They're alive!!! Two bags, one blue meanie cubes, the other Cambodian.

The Cambodian i tried the injecting all the way through the bag and out the other side tek, it did nothing so i gave up on it, took it out of the incubator and left it on a shelf, probably about 18 to 20c.

The meanies were doing great, mixed on day 10 and 15 and then put an additional thermometer in there and realised it was only 24c so turned it up a bit and cooked it, it looked dead.

Turned the temp back down and tiny white bits appeared on the meanies, checked the Cambodian and a small area of white was growing so they are both back in the incubator at the original temp setting i had it on and seem to be growing.

So the general consensus is either break it up and add a casing layer, or make a dino egg? It would be amazing if they recover and fruit, id totally given up on them.

Do i wait until they're completely colonised first?

Congratulations!

To answer your question, yeah wait until it's fully colonized to expose it to unfiltered air

I'd personally try to get the most out of them, and spawn to a tub instead of doing a dino egg.

Figure out your spawn : sub ratio in your bag, it's prolly 50/50 and then just make a regular shoebox out of it by adding coir when you spawn.

Then add a psudocasing.

You said just mix it and case it but if you leave the 50/50 mix you won't be giving the mushrooms as much water as they'd prefer.

You can do it and they will grow, just won't be optimal.

I'm excited for you and looking forward to seeing your beautiful flushes here no matter which path you take. Hooray!

I just realized you're the same guy in the Ochra thread I was replying too, lol.

Forget I said the word psudocasing. I am talking about making two layers in your tub. One of spawn (mixed 50-50 with coir for cubes, less for Ochras) and the other layer (which I called a psudocasing) is only coir.

You're rescuing this shit, don't stress the ratios bro. Time is of the essence you should break it up asap and put it in a tub. Just shoot for like anywhere from 1:4 -1:7 for your total spawn to sub ratio, you'll be estimating because of your AIO bags of course.

Yeah man, same guy, I'm everywhere and just an impatient arse.

Would a sub layer of wet sand in the box instead of mixing in coco maintain the rh enough or would the myc just try to colonise it?

Thinking i could fit a hollow cylinder to the centre of the box for topping up with water as the sand dries out?

You're behaving like tultedspoon. Just mix it up with coir, follow a TEK, or fuck around with hollow cylinders and water reservoirs and sand and FAFO yourself.

I'm not going to discuss your sand shenanigans, maybe someone else is willing.

Good luck

Ha ha, fair enough. It works well in my plant pots so just wondered if its been tried and tested with shrooms.

I cant help it, my brain tries to re invent everything, at the moment it wont give up on the idea of using unpasteurised meal worm frass, they produce something that inhibits mould but not sure if it also inhibits mycelium.

Ill follow the established tek for now and wait until i have plenty of micro doses and some spare spore prints before attempting to quiet my mind with first hand experience of failure.

Thanks for the tips @archespore, much appreciated.

I just rang the people i got my substrate bags from to ask the grain to verm ratio so i could work out how much coco to mix in and they say NOOOO!! Don’t add coco, apparently its a new bag design with ‘oxygen release agents’ mixed in so it doesn't have the issues you get with normal aio bags, they call them ‘inject and forget’ bags.

Im defo going with the shroomery tek going forward as its cheaper than the bags and works from spore prints so no needles needed but i don't know what to do with these bags now.

Has anyone had any experience with these new bags?

listen to the grain bag people then and inject and forget

Do it for science and post pics here of your first flush, the more data the better. And these new oxygen release agents sound absolutely fascinating, may be the beginning of a new era :freewilly:

Just doing it's thing......I don't know what kind of temps you have going on but if the temps are on the lower side it'll take a little bit longer to colonise your egg. Also, it's probably recovering from being abused. I notice the coir on the very top of your eggs looks a bit dry?? But I'm no expert here.....

The sub looks a bit dry maybe mist that part a bit to hydrate but other than that just make sure the surface conditions are good, long as you see tiny droplets on the mycelium you should be fine

Hello! Hope all is well.

I unfortunately didn't find Shroomery till two days after I ordered my all-in-one grow bag and LC.

As I've started reading through the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Shroomery, I am realizing that it was a poor choice and I probably shouldn't have used Google as a reference point for learning how to get into this stuff.

Fortunately, I feel like I've saved myself to an extent because I haven't started my grow bag; and I'm now just hoping there's something I can do to save the grow.

Are there any things I should look out for initially? Any tips that don't really come by instruction with the bag? I know, too, that the strain I'm growing is known to be stubborn, so I'm concerned it may not do anything at all. I'm growing Jack Frost using a 10cc LC syringe (splitting between two bags, 5cc each). I mean, honestly, I feel I could do PF tek if the UB tek is TRULY that awful-- but I'm not sure if I want to let these bags go to waste as I spent $60 on them.

Hopefully I can learn from this and make the right decision moving forward. Also, my mind is filled with wonderful ideas and wonders about this stuff. Just curious, how much of a yield do you think I could produce of JF with my first grow using 10cc?

First, I just want to express my gratitude for this thread.  Hopefully I can learn something and others can learn from my situation.

My wife did a great job preparing to grow some shrooms at home.  After many years working in a lab, her ability to employ sterile procedures is great.  She ordered 6 AIO bags and 3 syringes.  She screwed one bag of Golden Teacher and tossed it.  It didn't seem contaminated it just didn't colonize.  The other Golden Teacher has yielded 2 flushes.  Each bag of Jedi Mind Fuck has yielded 1 flush each.

2 bags of Hillbilly have stalled though.  Fully colonized and maybe 1 or 2 *tiny* pins but otherwise no real action.  We've done FAE the same way for all of our bags.

I have 2 new 28Q mono-tubs available but nothing else right now.  I got the mono-tubs a couple of weeks ago, figuring I would experiment with them and the Hillbilly bricks, but then I learned about this thread and community and would LOVE to hedge my bet with expert guidance.

Make sure you inoculate in a SAB. It doesn't matter how much LC you have, you only need a microscopic amount. You can always put a drop in agar and make more, or just squirt some into an LME solution if you want more LC.

I would not put 5cc of LC into a bag, that sounds like way too much. Shoot for .5cc and try to get some of the cloudy bits into it, wouldn't put much more than 1cc if you can help it.

If you don't have anymore hillbilly genetics I'd clone one of your pins.

You've got the right idea about hedging your bets. Contamination will happen, especially as you refine your techniques. Its always good to have multiple irons in the fire, they take a while to heat up.

Imo you've had your fun with vendor stuff and questionable syringes, sounds like you've gotten some yield! Now it's time to learn agar, clean up some plates and get into the fun stuff

I appreciate your input Archespore.  I am definitely curious about agar and growing more but also am afraid of having an over-abundance of fruit.  I vacuum packed 49 grams of JMF today (28+21) and the 2 bags we harvested from have some nice 2nd flushes growing now.  Add to that another 50g of dried JMF and GT and we’re sitting pretty.

As for our stalled Hillbilly, I don’t think they are contaminated, just in limbo.  I simply set them up in monotubs today to see what they do.
