I'm not sure if you are implying that there is no hope that thing's will "work out". If that's the case, what's the point in trying? I'm a big believer in "memento mori". The fact that I am going to die, no matter what, helps me to find the courage to make difficult choices and practice terrible compassion.


I don't see how America losing status in the world means that others can't step up to the plate to help those who are suffering, or that America can't still help according to its own capacity, however diminished.

The details of losing status might be important. Hospitals are going to close. People will lose their supports and lots of them are going to die.
I am considering the experiences of those who will suffer the most when I say it's not going to work out. 15 mil people snuffing it isn't what I'd call working out, but if we're just concerned about human DNA making it into the future then yes it'll probably work out.

Disagree.  There is still a zero sum game and those 15 million will be amoung your country men. We only rebuilt Germany economy after ww2 with slow slavery to spite Russia. Humanity is only compensation to others is in spite to others.
