It happens. Increase fae and let it have more light. They will grow much straighter.

Props.
All these cakes make me want to do one. Last time I did one was spores in open air. Had to be 2006-2008ish. And I did learn how to do it here on Shroomery!

Ochra are pretty sensitive to air.

This was the same culture one in a bag and one in a tent set up for high air flow.

Ive got 2 bags colonized at 100%. I’m not going to take to bulk. I’m going to cut the top of the bag off put some core vermiculite and fruit it inside of a Martha.

I’m just wondering what the culture will be like without any contaminants all of its life before it starts to fruit

When it goes to a bulk substrate, not only does it have to fight to grow new mycelium and produce fruit, but it fights contamination also
Plus, I’m disliking orca every time I trip on them they seem to be not consistent in the strength sometimes I just get a 1 g buzz off of 1 g other times I get a 10 g buzz off of 2 g

My last orca out of the tub

One of my tubs had a blue cap mutation, but the spores seem to be having trouble. These are prints left alone for 24hrs, only two caps had strong spores, one was weak and the other two have no visible dropped spores. The gills are nearly black on all of them.

Is this a possible genetic/fertility issue showing up? I've been collecting and growing spores from the same original genetics for over a year now. Or does this sometimes just happen

Hello! First time growing P. ochraceocentrata, the tub looks like this after 8 days! Is it normal for the mycelium to be soo stringy?

Also I have the feeling the Ez dialed tub is not providing enough air exchange, there is a lot of condensation, what do you think?

Usually with ochra how long after spawning do you start see knotting?

Yes, it gets extremely thick and ropey

I've got two agar plates fully colonized with ochra myc. I've always gone LC to grain I've only done agar to grain with oyster mushrooms. What is the ratio for agar to grain jar, 1 whole plate into one jar of grain? Or can I stretch it and do half a plate per jar?

U can inoc 5 jars with 1 plate or 10. Don't rlly matter the mycelium will expand n devour the grains for nutrients to expand further as it grows. More agar might slightly increase speed though I'd assume more contam chance of ur not entirely sure ur plates are 100% clean. Smaller pieces work fine I like to do 4 per plate n make a transfer + leave some in the plate as a backup backup Incase all else fails.

that sounds a little scary but I still really want to try growing some of these. started a few jars of spawn with LC and more from agar so hopefully I'll see some in a while.

Heck, yeah that’s why I wanted to try growing them because that is 90% of the fun after you have so much you could never ever use

I’ve probably got a round a pound or so of these dried so I’m gonna go back to some of my old favorites which are Jack Frost and ATL seven

Plate said Ochra, BUT, it might have been from my mislabelled Yusky Print because I grew out a bunch of that and it was Ochras. That's quite an interesting plin pheno for Ochras if they are , but since the gills end at the stem quite visibly, I'm thinking this might be the Yeti/Husky cross. I will find out. Any inputs? Have you seen ochras with a pheno like this?

In your experience, how much does it take after you spawn to bulk to see the first pins?
