Chopping this side off the bag today. Twelve ounces from a 5lb block with about the same amount still growing out the other side.

Roasted them up and they are delicious!

0.5g and 0.8g glass jar with master mix. Different varieties of lions mane. Small jar with muda style AIO grain/substrate that was inoculated with lc. Large jar had sterilized m/m half full, which was inoculated with grain, and topped off with grain/mm mixed substrate. Large jar colonized much faster

My ancient shiitake plates have just turned brown - I've personally never seen it pin on agar.

That's awesome. Do you remember how old that plate was?

Today I discovered a fully mature (and pretty large) shiitake (3790) fruit right in the bag:

There weren't any smashed side fruits, just that one. I did notice a few spots of what looked like mold on the top, before rinsing, so I may have fucked up when inoculating that bag. Could pushing out that one early fruit have been a response to mold?

Anyway, turns out all of the blocks, including some that hadn't fully turned brown, had some pins. I didn't cold shock these.

Here are some 3782 blocks inoculated the same day (30 September) and stripped a few days ago after a night in a 40-50 °F garage:

I enjoy the scent of shiitake blocks. They have such a strange look and feel, though.

What kind of oyster are you running?

Blue(Pleurotus ostreatus), and I have som pioppini LC(from vendor) on agar to test how clean it is, then agar to grain when it's clean and then to shoebox :dancer:

Talking of pioppini, have anyone here tried spawning to bulk with coir and hwfp?

I've done it in shoeboxes with pure coir (sucked) and pure HWFP (sucked a little less). Never tried mixing them, but I suppose it might help with moisture content - the fuel pellet shoeboxes generally only put out one small flush, I think they dried out pretty quick.

Fuel pellets in bags work better. If you don't have a tent you can slice off the top of the bag, fold it over, and clip - it'll fruit inside. Depending on your humidity, you will probably need to open and mist periodically.

:takingnotes: This is great news, for now I am not really concerned about high yield, I just want to see if I can get fruits and how I and my wife like the taste. I think I'll do shoebox and small bag and use hwfp in the bag and a mix of hwfp and coir in the shoebox, maybe a pseudo casing, thanks.

 First pins are so exciting! I have better shiitake cultures now than I did then - let me know if you're interested.

Harvested these today:

Average 487.5 g/block, each of which was ~2.2 kg of substrate (80% oak pellets, 20% wheat bran by dry weight, 60% hydration) and ~110 g of wheat spawn. Aloha 3782 culture generously provided by RoscoeReturns. My previous attempts have yielded maybe half this much on the first flush, but those were with S75 and an unnamed "high temperature tolerant" culture from a vendor and with unsupplemented pellets.

One weird mutant:

I've got four 3790 blocks still fruiting, also from Roscoe. They're looking sparser, but I'm hoping that just means the individuals will be a lot larger.

I also have bags of AM-1 and CS-3 that have been colonizing/browning for about a month. I'm excited to see how those turn out too.
