Apparently they are commercially cultivated indoors in Asian countries

Heya

Recently I got this strain of Turtle Oysters from the Mycelium Emporium for free as one of their deals: https://www.themyceliumemporium.com/product-page/turtle-pond-oyster-pleurotus-ostreatus-maine-wild-strain

I'ev always kind of had issues with Oysters not getting as big as I feel they should be. I figure it has to be air exchange but I also figure I ask here to see if there's anything I'm missing in particular

Below is one of the bags that began pinning about 5 days ago

For the first two or three days I had the humidity in my chamber at 87.5-90%
The past few days it's been 82.5-85%

Also I have two 12v 120mm intake and exhaust fans running at half power 24/7 with lights coming on 12 hours a day on/off

The sawdust bags I've been using are 16% bran

Disregard the cheap blown out humidity sensor. I have an actual relay adjusting the humidity to be in range I just wanted to check a few different spots

In the past I've grown Oysters out in my compost bin and those always got to be egregiously large when they fruited kind of like how you see in the photos here: https://www.themyceliumemporium.com/product-page/turtle-pond-oyster-pleurotus-ostreatus-maine-wild-strain

Which is why I think it might be air, but even with the fans running constantly I would think it'd be enough. I guess not though!

Thank you in advance for any info

I’m going to say it’s humidity and moisture content, try increasing humidity and also you can soak your blocks for a few hours before putting them in the fruit chamber

They do look kinda starved for air, too...

Where are the intake and exhaust fans? Exhaust on the bottom, intake near the top is the most effective for exchanging all the air (and removing the most CO2 and spores).

Running them constantly might be hurting too, causing excessive evaporation especially at less than 95% humidity. Can you run them full speed for as long as it takes to fully exchange the air (given fan CFM and chamber volume), then turn off and cycle again 10 minutes from the beginning of the previous cycle? That gives you 6 exchanges per hour, which is good for most species at least according to Stamets.

Is the intake air sufficiently fresh? I assume you're venting outside, but if the chamber is in a room you're also colonizing blocks in, you might need another fan to draw in fresh air from elsewhere in the house.

Yeah intake is at the top exhaust is at the bottom
I think you, and others are correct in that it needs more actual oxygen coming in instead of just air being moved around from the room

I'm gonna hook up the intake to the window as well so fresh air from outside can come in instead of stagnant room air

I'll also see about running a timer

The dialing in continues

Thank you very much for the help

my ghetto table top setup

3 shelf wire rack, clear trashbag over it. Exhaust fan.

Have the timers set for fan to run 5 minutes, humidifier for 10, nothing for 10 minutes then repeat.

Lions mane coming in fast, pretty excited to see how it taste like and hopefully get some turkey tail and oysters in there next

So I have this qt sized BRF cake (reishi), from vendor LC that has been clean on agar - turned it into quickie LI so I had more juice to spoot:

Questions:

* Does the cake look colonized and ready to fruit?

* Will 6c of HWFP / 7c H2O make enough substrate for this cake to thrive in a 2 gallon bucket?

* Is this a terrible plan?

I am looking for some decent bags for cheap, but I'd like to get this cake fruiting if I can. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

I have three 5lb sawdust bags of shiitake that became over colonized waiting for me to find time to drill logs.  Had to go away for a week so I put one bag in the fridge for 24 hrs then cut it open and put it in mod'ed water bin thinking I would come back to a nice shiitake flush, instead a week later I got only one:smirk::
