Yes sir, it's 100% pasteurized straw. I have some going on a mix of straw and oak sawdust, and one on oak sawdust alone. Looking forward to observing the different results. Ahhh, I see. Glad they are working out well for you. Tis an impressive clump:smile:

My 1st Coral Tooth. Was worried it was going to turn out to be all air but surprisingly pretty hefty!

spawned some oysters today, but this culture (sometimes more than others) gets a yellowish tinge on the top of the jar.

could that be mold riding along with the pleurotus?

(should i make my own thread for quick questions like this?  maybe there should be a quick questions thread...)

I don’t think inner or outer growth is oyster tbh

Inside is definitely contam but the outer growth is iffy, but I would recommend starting over from a fruit body after they pin and mature

^Does this look like oysters pinning?  tx taken from scraping the mycelium crawling up the sides of the dish (aerial mycelium, no agar) Jan 10

^Earlier plate, Dec or January, pins dont seem to be growing much.
Does that these look like oysters? mold free?

Wow looks like a contaminate mushroom. Very cool. Keep an eye on it. Could it be cubensis?

The well defined pin head doesn’t resemble any oysters I’ve seen, either you got a mislabeled culture or Dave is right you have a fruiting mushroom contam species I’ve seen inky caps commonly contaminating other mushroom spawn

Also Dave I’m really interested in how you prepare your grain spawn bags, I’ve never seen grain bags tied with zip ties only sawdust blocks

What’s your process and they don’t have filters?

Feel free to PM me if you want so we don’t clutter this thread

My morchella importuna spawn is finally starting to throw stones!!!

no couldn't be a cube, those dont grow around here.  tried to clone and old dried out, buggy, mostly hollow oyster (i think!) and i thought i transferred enough and i thought i had clean fungal growth.

I spawned it to boiled wood chips in a 5gal bucket on Feb 2nd here it is today.

*Edit* also curious about the lack of filters

Shitake "75" from liquid fungi. It flushed 3 times, in 2 jars.  At about 14mos? I'm kinda curious if it produced any spores. I never saw germination on surface. I usually can't get viable spores from the things I've grown in vitro at 100rh.

I'm pretty exited about the blewit.  I have a whole bunch of planter beds/irrigation to build for a local retail business, and I'm gonna nock them up.  Last year they insisted on cedar mulch, so I just buried a bunch of 7lb oyster blocks. This year, irrigation and black pearl kings, wine cap, tiger sawgill and blewit.

Manure & Wheat straw substrate for the blewit beds and then top dress with mulch for water retention

I’d recommend making grain spawn first and pasteurizing your subs otherwise it’s pretty straightforward

Harvested first flush of king oysters on a couple shoeboxes. Amazing what will grow in only a couple inches of straw
