Nice flush you got there!!!

i think the best shiitake yield I got was from “solar eclipse” wide range from the emporium, good pin set and hefty fruits

But I might have to try that aloha strain soon !!

And I never browned them lol probably jumped the gun

Yes, black kings. 14 bags. I like to pick them young for appearance and shelf life, even tho the yield is less.

Nice! Hope you enjoy the mushrooms!

For a fuller pinset next time, leave the block in the bag for 10-14 weeks, so it turns mostly if not fully brown (see my pics a few posts back). Then leave the bag outside or in the garage for a night or two (cold but not freezing is the idea). Strip the bag, hose it off, and give it a couple smacks before putting into the fruiting chamber. (Not sure how important the smack actually is, but it's commonly recommended for shiitake as a pinning trigger and it doesn't take much effort.)

You may get a better second flush out of this one than the first, since the block will have aged a bit more. After your harvest, rest it outside of the humidified space for a week or so. Then soak it overnight (you'll need something heavy to hold the block underwater), rinse it off, and put it back into fruiting conditions.

Only TCs get shiitake plins. Nice shiny tag.

I think I may have seen some before, actually, and just mistaken them for the usual shiitake discoloration. And recently I haven't been keeping old plates around very long.

Lol...surprisingly it's not that old of a plate. The culture on the other hand; who knows.

Awesome thanks for the tips! This block decided to start pinning while still in the bag in my closet, how should I prevent that from happening, is it mainly just not letting it get cold?

I never worry about shiitake pins in the bag. I usually get a few. Just let the block brown, and pull off any partial fruit when you pull the block out of the bag and rinse off.
