Lions mane. My first success of any kind with gourmets. All criticism and advice welcome. I am very excited, I needed a win.

Inoculated a burst bag with shiitake thinking it wouldn’t be a loss if it didn’t pull through as it’d be fruiting in summer, taped the hole and watched trich spread then get stopped by the myc, it stayed soft and green for about 2 months then went hard and looked like this

A month later I’ve got fruits, I’m sure the green will show up again but I’m impressed, shiitake don’t care

For now I am, but I have another bag of lions mane and two shiitakes that I am probably going to try to fruit in a water tub.
Edit: shout out to Phaethon for the cultures. Thank you very much.

Hi! Is there any tek about fruiting gourmets in water tubs instead of a greenhouse? I want to try gourmets but I don't have the money or space to build a humidity tent right now

You can fruit stuff like chestnut, kings, or black pearl in the bags if you get the ones with the .5 filters (I think it’s .5)

Oysters and lions mane need a massive amount of fresh air. I’ve successfully fruited them by misting inside a grocery bag once or twice a day and putting it over the block though also.

If you’re somewhere humid you can just open air fruit also.

What highest temperatures have you successfully fruited pioppinos and chestnuts? I have some cultures ready to go, but am hesitant because of the warm temps right now.

And what are the colonizing/pinning/fruiting times you experience?

Based on what I've read, I would assume it's too soon to harvest this Lion's Mane but I t the lower portions of the fruits are starting to brown while most of the tops are still fairly firm. Do I harvest anyway?

Check out this Timmy. Really wanted to grow upside down. If the rest of them keep this up, I'll need to take them out for a deep walk in the woods...

My first Shitake grow. Pretty sure I grew this on rye + coir + verm, maybe added a little of wheat bran. It was an extra muda bottle that I didn't expect to work out. Inoculation to fruiting was about 8 weeks. Went in the fridge for 36 hours, then fruited 3 days later.

Nice, hadn't considered bottle growing these. I'm a little surprised it fruited without wood.

Those still look a little immature, though certainly good to eat already if you're impatient or want longer shelf life.

I'm glad they're working out for you!

My experience with lion's mane in a tub has been fairly unsatisfactory, very sprawly growth instead of tight little poofs. Still tastes good despite it all though. I added some aquarium bubbler stones to the water when I put the bottles back in for a second fruiting, and some of them at least seem to be starting nicer looking fruits. But I've now got some bottles with a bit of standing water, so I still need to dial that in...

Shiitake in a plain tub with poly stuffed or micropore tape covered holes (no water on the bottom, just daily misting) has worked well for me though.

I will try these methods whenever I finally start with gourmets, so far finding hardwood pellets and soy hulls near me has been a PITA.

I thought this lions mane was a goner so I brought it inside and it just seems to be doing great for me not doing a single thing to it and leaving it in my garage :rofl2:
